considering that china's policies on population control have resulted in stray dogs eating infants left in the trash, it's more than slightly obnoxious that they won't allow single parents and homosexuals and all the rest.

Back to reality. There are four families/parents/single parents in line for every Chinese orphan. They just had to make some rules to control the situation.

There were more than 5 new rules (I have not heard of the minimum income/net assets before).
I remember these:
The parents should not have more than 5 children (makes sense to me),
the parents should not have divorced more than once (makes sense to me),
the parents should be married (no gay marriage, I don't think that surprises anyone),
the parents should not be overwhelmingly fat (health issue, I guess)
and then there was an age limit to parents too but I can't remember what it was. 25-50 or something like that (once again, makes sense to me.)

Well I suppose they're just being realistic that most of the children aren't going to end up in socialist paradises where everyone is cared for, so they have to take steps to ensure their well-being.

It's funny, because I meet so many people in the west that cannot wait for the inevitable overlordship of China and seem to think it will be all sunshine and kittens when that day comes.

Still, I'm going to write to the chinese and suggest that in addition to these already sensible guidelines they add something about parents with inappropriate religious convictions.

Anyway, this is merely a way of controlling the high demand for chinese children that are being put up for adoption. And I sincerely doubt the authorities actually can be quoted for saying "fat asses".

I was watching a discovery channel special on the worlds best restrooms, the winner was in China. It was a privately owned solid gold bathroom...heres the kicker. The owner said it was inspired by a communist leader.
