Hentai is definitely interesting. There's good hentai, and then there's a lot of absolutely disgusting hentai. Much like there's good porn and absolutely disgusting porn. Plus, with hentai, there's no realiy involved, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on whom you speak to. And you can't get the kind of catgirls you see in hentai in real life, now can you? :D

They are handsomely paid for their services, and they do it voluntarily. Any reasonable pornographer also ensures that they are well protected. It's not exploitation.
