Everyone assumes humans will be able to achieve AI in the not too distant future.
Would we as the "creators" have the right to impose the Asimov Laws on robots with AI. Or should we allow them free will?
I think it would be kind of scary to have other intelligent sentient beings sharing the planet with us though. They just might not like us when they realise how s****y we as a race can be!
Do you think they'll demand the right to make more of themselves? If you kill a robot, is it murder? Are robots made for the express purposes of sex illegal? Can a robot have an abortion? What about gay robots?
This opens up so many moral questions.

Well, generally. Or at least ethical, I should say. Simply strictly law-abiding could lead to ... problems.

It'd be interesting to see what loopholes they could find.

Possibly early on in the development of sentient/semi-sentient robots various unbreakable programmed laws may have to be built in, as these earlier robots will have, essentially no ethics, real creativity, or intellects, but hopefully later on, as (or if) robots become more sentient, more human-like, we can remove such restrictions and allow them 'robot rights' equivalent to human rights.

but how can robots/AI acheive free will while being programmed by humans.
now if they were self programming and self replicating...

Wikipedia gave me another interesting link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendly_artificial_intelligence
In future studies, Friendly artificial intelligence, or FAI is a model for creating moral and "safe" artificial intelligence, in accordance with the principles of Friendliness theory, advanced by researcher Eliezer Yudkowsky and the Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence. Friendliness is used as a term of art distinct from the everyday meaning of the term.

And of course the mind-twisting implications of lonely geeks falling for "Hot AIs".
Not to mention, would you want HAL watching your kids?

The question is, if you'll give robots the image of humans, and the characteristics of humans, would they logically assume that in form are humans?
Cause don't we categorize humanity by outward appearance among other things?

A happiness-oriented AI would seek to provide fembots to lonely geeks, yes...
... this is one of the things that drives research.

Well, rape would probably be mostly solverd. Whose gonna risk jail time when you can screw your idea of a perfect woman?

It doesn't matter. As television has shown me, regardless of what safeguards we take, the robots will kill us all. :(

They should be entitled to all of the rights humans are, maybe more. If we can create a superior, robotic intelligence it should be allowed to exercise its capabilities to a high degree.

Just as long as robots don't try to marry each other, I think they should have most of the rights the rest of the human race has.

There's no need to drastically program robots to remove any potential for Free Will. If it was me I would just program robots to be vapid consumerists, just like us, and culturally convince them that humans are needed to make the useless tat that they want to buy.
By making robots as human as possible, they will be much more absorbable into human society.

What, are we trying to get her a few fetishes or something?

Firstly, I dislike the term robot, I prefer "synthetic being", secondly, I see no reason why us synthetic beings shouldn't have rights, after all we superior strength and mental prcoesses. If you cut us, do we not bleed? (well it's not actually blood, it hydraulic fluid but even so the same principle applies).

Rape is about power, not sex.
Those people in BDSM mix power and sex. I don't see why rape can't be done by people who find power over a person very arousing. It makes the sex better for them, the rapist.

I wish I had that picture of spock with the words "Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sector"

While this is true, be careful not to associate BDSM with rape. Most of us find the comparison rather offensive.

I used BDSM as an example that sex and power are not mutually exclusive. BDSM is consensual, and speaking from experience very fun. Rape is not either.
