Amazing ipod? I think not.
Just about 2 days ago, I left my ipod nano in the washing machine. Still in the jeans of course. As I was taking the clothes out, I felt a lump in the jeans pocket. Viola, soaked ipod. I have a leather case for it, which it was still in. Of course, the crappy 10$ headphones are busted. I Click the wheel. Nothing. Let it dry for 24 hours, still nothing. Attempt too charge, Y-...nothing. This is really strange considering I have read things like this:

And yet, death for the pod. Anyway, I was googling around, and it seems people have very interesting stories about how thier various electronics have survived the dreaded and inevitable encounter with the washing machine. Nser's, care too share?

My dad killed his work cellphone when he had it clipped to his jogging shorts.
He had decided that after jogging, he wanted to take a swim, and hopped into the apartment swimming pool, phone attached to the shorts. Needless to say, the phone became water-lodged. He got a new one, but, never did tell his boss why it died...

i spilt a glass of water over my digital camera a few months ago, it took a while to dry out but it works fine now. if it had gone through the washing machine though i wouldn't even bother testing it. i'd just dry it out as best i could and (if the warranty was still valid) send it back with a note saying "i dunno what happened, the bloody thing just stopped working", and hope for a refund or replacement.
i sent my driving liscence through the washer once, even that stopped working. electronic stuff is even more sensitive to water.

I just lost my cell phone to the washing machine last week. It didn't even go through a full cycle. I realized it was in there before it even completely filled with water. But that 1 minute in the water was enough to kill it.

Are you suggesting that the consistency of my urine is the same as that of a black lab's?
I've known of a couple of cellphones that fell into toilets and still worked afterwards. Don't know about washing machines though.

Well yeah, toilets are just a nice pool of water for your household electronics and very small animals.

I sent my cell phone through the washing machine way back. Somehow the fucker returned to life, didn't even need a new battery. That evening was an evening of monumental stupidity for me, as I also managed to send my watch through the washing machine, and the washing machine killed my watch nice and dead.

Gameboys are built from all sorts of dangerous now banned chemicals and substances, they are probably more durable than all the new fancy electronics the troops are using.

is it odd that i empty and check my pockets before putting my stuff in the wash. im sure it also has something to do with i wash all my stuff inside out.
I can vouch for the cell phone. I washed my cell by accident and it is still alive!

Not at all, I almost always do that, but on the night of technological destruction and terror, I was hurrying. I had to be on the road in about four hours, and I wanted to make sure that I had clean clothes, and because I wasn't attentive, I busted a really nice watch which had an awful lot of sentimental value.

I lost my brand new cell phone down a stormwater drain not 2 weeks after I bought it. I loved that phone. It was beautiful and pink and cute.

Kevorkian?
My doctor's name is Kevorkian (different one though!)
Anyway, cell phones can survive just about anything. My mom's dropped her cell phone in the pool, in her coffee, and a bucket of weed killer, and it's still alive (however she now has a new phone). My sister once dropped her cell phone in her' friends pool (her friend pushed her in while she was still talking on it).
iPods apparently aren't strong like cell phones.

I don't know about you, but I have never had any of my electronic gadgets attacked by a bear. Although the fact that there aren't any bears across hundreds of kilometres and an ocean or two may have something to do with it.

I am a customer who wants washing-machine proof gadgets and as this thread shows, I am not the only one. So why can't the designers just MAKE something like that? Oh right, they profit from additional sold units!

The added insulation required to protect gadgets from operational washing machines could very well render them bulkier, and of course, dreadfully uncool. Now think about that. Would you want to be seen in public being uncool?
I though so. :p

I'm not sure how exciting you consider life in Adelaide to be. I, for one, wouldn't mind the added entertainment that large, electronics-endangering bears would offer. Perhaps a couple could be dropped off at Rundle Mall to start with.

I think that a decent compromise could be reached. How long it would take and how much it would cost. Those are the true problem.

This made me laugh :)
I'll be the first to admit that Adelaide is a boring city, but considering that I usually only go outside for walks and such, that's how I like it. But if you could get the money for it, I would probably go and check out the results of releasing bears into Rundle Mall.

I think the zoo still has some black bears. If we were to commandeer them, they could bathe in the Torrens. Besides, there's lots of food at Rundle Mall.
The bear/s would make good, intimidating buskers, so they would eventually pay for themselves if there were fines to be payed.
