It's a number which has some odd qualities when used in calculus, in that you can integrate or differentiate it without changing it. Hence the corny mathematician joke:

x^2 and e^x were at a party. x^2 was the life and sole of the party, telling jokes, making friends, and buying drinks. Meanwhile e^x sat huddled in a corner. x^2 saw this and approached his friend, saying "come on mate, try to integrate." But it didn't make any difference...

5 is far superior.

Fair enough. But the Law of fives flows into twenty three, in that two+three equals five and therefore five is both odd and even.

Fergi America;12123952']23's my fave, but I started liking that because it was the number of the bus that I rode home from grade school.

But now I'm curious about this Illumanitus! Trilogy...

combine a steamy novel with philosphy with conspiracy theories with magic, and you have the Illumanitus! Trilogy.

Eight, because I was born in '88 and my favourite age was 8. Plus I like evenly balanced numbers; it's even, and the way the number is written is centrally symmetrical. Plus, on a digital clock, if you turn on all the lines of a number you'll get 8; observe

Yesh, there are only 10 kinds of people in the world ;)

When I first read that one a few weeks ago I was chuckling for quite a time. Though not as much as 'why viruses are rare on linux'. I was in hysterics. None of my frieds came close to finding it funny. Shame, it was good.

Erm, 436. I don't know why, it just is. I don't argue with it, and neither should you.

Favourite single digit number is, erm...not got a clue. Though I can rule out 0, 2, 5, 6 and 8. They're just not right.

I never said it was a particuarly funny joke. :D
I love all maths jokes, and that one is nearly my new favourite.

Still prefer my Hallowe'en/Christmas one, though.

126 because
1. It's my birthday.
2. One out of 126 people have autism.
3. It's the band room at my school.
