This guy has created a small wing with jet engines that you can strap on your back and fly around on! It just looks awesome! There's a video of it.

wowee!! if only it was actually as peaceful as the soundtrack would suggest. even on the film you can hear the jets screaming away (obviously, but you know what i mean, part of the attraction of wanting to fly like a bird is to do it under your own steam and and be above all the manic hubub of modern combustion technology style of thing). looks heavy too. i wanna do gliding again, did a solo glider flight a while ago (my 17th birthday i think, or close to). if it was possible to do like this guy does but without noisy engines that would be just amazing.
edit: no scrap that, i'm talking crazy talk. i need to go handglidering.
