re-gifting

I wonder.........does anyone else here do it? what's your procedure? do you think it's unethical?

I just got done wrapping up a birthday gift to re-gift as a Christmas gift to someone.

Usually if I can't return something unwanted I wrap it and label what's inside and who gave it to me so that when Christmas rolls around again I have pre-wrapped free stash of junk to gift to those random people who I have to give gifts to.

what's your stance on the re-gift?

It completelys beats the point of giving gifts , you may aswell not give them anything.

i dont have a problem with it. its good new stuff so why shouldnt you pass it on to someone who might like it.

as long as you arent passing on something you HATE just to get rid of it by giving it to anyone you can think of. crappy gifts belong in the trash not passed on as a burden to someone else

my gift circle is too small for me to be able to re-gift.

It only makes sense. Better than binning them.. and selling them seems wrong somehow.

most of these are courtesy gifts........you know if I don't give them something they will get all "I gave her something and she didn't give me anything"

that's why I write what it is on the outside, sometimes if I think of someone who might like it I write their name on it as well. I have 4 distinct social circles so it's not hard to avoid any awkwardness.

probably not the nicest thing but, I do it I don't want that shit lieing around at my house. I only give gifts if people give to me first and they should know I don't celebrate Xmas because I don't want to. So, if they get something they don't like it is their damn problem.

I don't do it. I reuse the gift bags if I get a present in a gift bag so that the bag isn't wasted, but I don't think it's good to re-gift presents.

if I weren't meant to re-gift then why do people give me crap I don't want?

It's an excellent thing to do.

Not very communist of you. That opinion strikes me as very bourgeois, even.

They were probably re-gifts..

In fact, there have been cases in which the same gift has been passed around hundreds and hundreds of times..

's fact, that.

I never give standardgifts - I select one that fits the person I give it to.

I only re-gift things to people I think would like them.

I tend not to regift, mainly because it just seems tacky and cheap.

if things are new and someone else might want it what is tacky and cheap about it? isn't it the thought that counts?

you guys are so harsh

if you have received a nice gift that just isnt right for you, what is the problem with giving it to someone who you think will actually like it?

not the statue of liberty with a clock in her stomache, but ...say .... a waterford crystal vase. i see nothing wrong in giving that to someone who loves fine crystal.

This about sums up how I feel about it. Someone once gave me a Swarovski crystal figurine that they didn't know I already had, and I gave it to my mother, who loves it. Everyone was happy.

I tend to give my "unused" gifts to charity... perhaps some poor guy will be able to find a use for it...:p

In my experiences when someone re-gift, they're just trying to get rid of a gift that they don't want.

thanks.

Today I wrapped up a blown glass frog for a distant relative who collects frogs, it's very pretty, however with the way things go at my house I doubt it would last a week, plus I don't tend to keep things around just to dust them.
