Jesus Christ, King of Poland?

Forty-six Polish MPs have signed a bill hoping to make Jesus Christ the official King of Poland. Full story here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6200539.stm).

That would make Poland the second country in the world to have a dead man as its official leader (North Korea has Kim Il-Sung, who died in 1994, as its President).

They have some strange politicians in Poland!

I don't think it's just the Polish politicians that are strange, the Polish as a whole are strange. Every Pole I've met was a little off. It was creepy.

Technically, they already have a dead person as a ruler.

If the bill becomes law, Jesus will follow the path of the Virgin Mary, who was declared honorary queen of Poland by King John Casimir 350 years ago.

um... most poles did not vote for those two morons. only 45% of the country's ppl actually voted.

1. How is this a problem? After all, Jesus is not going to be giving anybody orders anytime soon.

2. Swilatia, if you don't vote, your opinion is completely irrelevant. So yeah.
Most of the Poles whose opinion matters voted for Kaczynski (sp?) .

I like the Poles, but maybe that's just me. Being from Chicago, I've known a few, and they're alright.

Anyway, a symbolic religious statement in some contexts isn't a big thing. It's probably not odd for Poland. After all, don't Greece and the U.K. have state religion? I don't think the local unbelievers are bothered. The Orthodox Church even took over Greece after the War for a while, and things went on as usual.

Sweden has a state religion too.

The entire thing about 'separation of church and state' is overrated really.

I kinda like it, but then again, if it made no practical difference that the country I lived in had a stated historical preferrence, I think I could deal with it.

Wouldn't this law make Jesus and Mary MARRIED, then?

Nope, a Queen isn't always the wife of the King...

Also she is "honorary" Queen, that means that she held the title only in name but not in fact... (As well as "honorary" citizen of a country aren't required to pay that country taxes...)

This kinda' stuff is not uncommon. There is some Southeast Asian (or South American, I cannot recall which) nation that had declared the Virgin Mary its honorary Field Marshal. It is basically just a testament to that nation's religiosity.

It certainly doesn't represent theocracy or even an intrusion of church into state (on account of this effecting absolutely no one), which you guys obviously toss around as the new "fascism." Theocracy is clerical rule.

Suppose we miraculously discover that the reason for the lack of objective historical eviddence for Jesus existence is that he in fact is a mixture of several great men, legends and philosophy. Or, to rephrase, not a real person.

How would Poland solve this ?

Nice to see religious idiocy is not confined to the U.S., as it all too often seems.
