What scares me is that is happened in my city, in fact, I can see the suburb which it happened in right now.

Not something you'd expect in ANY city

Nope, rape is about violence and/or power, NOT predominantly sex

And the story doesn't say the guy went to prison.

Well see I would be shouting NO NO NO!!! because I would be having a heartattack and I would know I would die, so I wouldn't want her to do it.... but I would still enjoy that final act before I died inside her.... :)

I thought the title implied more than one woman. But still, 85? I can sort of understand a guy that age raping a woman half that age, but at 85, eww. 85-year-old-women are frail and brittle... That'll be another reason for the elderly to be afraid of teenagers. That poor woman mustn't have known what hit her.

how can you be charged with burglary twice in one case:confused:

If the NZ legal system is like the UK one then there's lots of different crimes which are all called 'burglary' for short.
'Burglary with intent to steal' is the most obvious one.
Other examples are 'burglary with intent to commit rape', 'burglary with intent to do unlawful damage' and 'burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm'.
So, matey is on course to be charged with one or two of those. Or, he broke into another property at some point.

I am sure it would fall in the manslaughter category in the USA

I am so glad the guy was 18, hopefully that means he can be tried to the full extent of the law. Given that he's pleaded guilty to the initial five charges I see no reason not to. Just the stress could have killed her, I don't think I have the words to express my disgust at what he did.

I don't think anyone needs to be ultra-conservative to want to throw the book at this guy. And the gavel, and the wig and anything else to hand. The spiked railing around the dock would be good if they still have that type of thing in NZ.

Accidental murder would, according to my TV education, be something along the lines of negligent homicide or manslaughter.

People really shouldn't live past 60. So that's almost like necrophilia.

Why?

In my opinion, this actually is less traumatic then normal rape. Let's face it, raped when your twenty can seriously fuck up your life. In this case, you're views are pretty much cemented, and your life won't be as screwed up.

I think raping someone to death qualifies as murder.

In the UK, murder requires you to have set out with the intention of killing the victim, or of causing the victim serious harm, while being 'reckless that they would be killed'.

If there was no intent to kill, and no 'recklessness', it would be manslaughter. If the victim died in a case like this, much would probably depend on the condition granny was in when he left her.

I saw a similar case once, where the victim died a few weeks later. Very hard to prove there was any direct cause and effect, so in the end the bloke was jailed for rape, not for murder or manslaughter.

My question is why the 18 year old did it.

For POWER over another person. OR for violence. Or for both. Because although forced sex is involved, rape is NOT primarily about sex.

JUST??? Rape is traumatic whoever it happens to (with the possible extremely small exception of a handful of women who may enjoy it)

This is just as bad as any rape. The 'bad thing' about being raped is not that it fucks up your views. It's a horrifying experience, a disgusting violation of your body where you are reduced to the status of a worthless object by the rapist. Whatever age you are, being raped can still affect you in the ways in which it can affect young people - flashbacks, nightmares, being unable to sit near males (if you're female and raped by a male), paranoia, anxiety attacks, fear of leaving your house, and a whole load of other horrible stuff, including so much mental pain that it causes you to try to kill yourself.

The old in britain are already terrified of leaving there houses , and probably do ahev anxiety atatcks and no one seems to bother about them or care fot them (i'm talking those who work at places where they should)
