Is it fair that we measure the success of diffirent ideologies based on what impact it has today. Now I am sure a fair amount of you will state that we don´t base it on today but past experiences, but aren´t today yesterday´s history? So stating that today´s society is the most progressive on today, who´s to say it´s tomorrrow? This is the focus I wish to keep in this thread.

Can I be the first to say: I don't have a clue what you just said. Perhaps you could re-word it so me and my fellow fools can actually understand what the hell you're talking about.

Reminds me of the song:

Said he to me, "Now let me see if I have heard you right:
you want to go to Morrow and return to-morrow night?
If you wish to take the trip, why tarry on the way?
You should have gone to Morrow yesterday and back today.
For if you started yesterday to Morrow, don't you see?
you would have traveled to Morrow and return today by three.
The train that started yesterday, now understand me right,
today it gets to Morrow, and returns tomorrow night."

I refrained from posting it all :)

Here's a rough translation:

Is it fair that we measure the success of different political ideologies according to the level of impact they have on us today? Now, I am sure that a fair amount of you will say that we don't focus on their modern impact alone, but on their prior history as well. To you I say, isn't today merely tomorrow's history? In other words, by saying that modern society is the most progressive in history, who's to say that that will remain true in the future? This is the focus I wish to keep in this thread.

Margin of error's a bit wide, but it'll have to do.

I think he is asking if we should be happy with our present political idealogies because they are very progressive in comparison to historical idealogies.

Do we judge a society with comparisons to history and the present, or should we compare to what future societies may look like as well?

To this I say that history and the future have no bearing on whether a social structures are just.
