A New Jersey high school had to be closed down because of a herpes outbreak. Also it's an all boy's school. It turns out this type of herpes doesn't require sex to travel from one person to another.

If you're sick, don't go to school or work. Nobody wants your herpes.

Well, one consolation...now they don't have to be worried about getting herpes.

Okay, bad joke.

Truth is, a huge percentage of people already have non-sexual herpes...cold sores anyone?

Does this mean that they have herpes on their arms and legs now? How odd.

Also, does anyone wonder what search terms DCD uses to find this stuff?

There's a type of herpes that can be spread that easily?

Well you lean something new (and disturbing) every day.

The one guy got skin legions after wrestling with a boy from Nutley?!

That almost sounds like a story straight form the Onion! :)

I had to check it to make sure it wasn't my alma mater... and it isn't! ;)

Exactly. IIRC, 90% of the adult population has it.

You're probably referring to the Varicella-zoster virus infection that initially produces chickenpox (which probably matches your 90%). It can later manifest as Herpes Zoster, better known as shingles. I don't think you're considered to be a herpes patient unless or until you get shingles (and let me tell you, you don't want shingles).

You might be right. I couldn't find anything that supported my previous claim.

All the time.

I have visions of this guy sitting there typing lists like: "Herpes, high school, feces, furry sex, road accident, clown, nob, chocolate" into google just to see what happens.

That said, I imagine he actually subscribes to a news aggregator or whatever they are called these days.

No, herpes simplex I is an incredibly common virus, and can be passed as easily as a peck on the lips if one happens to be having an outbreak. Related to varicella-zoster, but not quite the same. Stats for infection of herpes simplex II are about 33%, 95% of infected people are unaware that they have the virus. Herpes simples I is much more common, but also rarely noted by the person carrying it.

As well...in all 50 states, you can be sued for passing herpes on to a sexual partner...in negligence if you didn't know, or for battery if you did. In Canada, it's an indictable offence...aggravated assault, with a maximum of 10 years. Little trivia for ya.
