In a 2003 interview broadcast on Dutch television, al Delaema accused the U.S. and its allies of waging war in Iraq to control its oil reserves.

"I don't care if I myself die or not. I want to offer myself up for my land, for my people," he said in the interview.

His family has said the interview was a joke.

I bet he doesn't think it's funny now.

What is it with people who participate in this sort of thing, and when asked on television, are all brave and full of pride, and when it looks like they're going to get their testicles in a bind, they suddenly say, "I was only joking!" or "They made me do it!".

I find his story not to believable since the extremists have already proven to be very knowledgeable and capable of making road side bombs and also they have easy access to filming, al Jazeera comes to mind. Haven't they recorded the extremists before in different acts and then their are the beheadings on the internet and I'm sure the extremist have easy access to people who know how and would be willing to film it. Why would they go to the trouble of kidnapping and beating when they already have access to those type of resources. Sounds very suspicious to me. As for his lawyers arguements, I knew it wouldn't stand.

It's a proven fact that having a camera pointed at you makes your testicles grow. *nods*

It makes a nice change to see the US actually giving a suspect a trial rather than arbitrarily locking them in Guantanamo Bay.

I don't give "fair trial" much of a chance in the US.. I wonder why he can't simply be tried here.

What's wrong with the civilian courts in the US? After all, isn't that what the people in Guantanamo want access to - US civilian courts?

Apparently, the courts in the Netherlands think it's perfectly legal to hand him over to US courts.

Do you know something about US courts that they do not?

Apparently, the courts in the Netherlands think it's perfectly legal to hand him over to US courts.Legal, perhaps. Just, fair, safe, that's all different matters.

Do you know something about US courts that they do not?Well, you hear stuff occasionally. Besides which I'd rather be tried in a country that ratified and upholds the declaration of Human Rights.

No one should be handed over to the US from europe until the US ratifies its damn extradition treaties.

Unfortunately, this piece of $hit will not be going to Gitmo, where he belongs.

Terrorists do not belong in civilian courts. At best, they belong before military tribunals, and upon conviction, they belong before firing squads.

Hopefully, once he takes up residence among the general population of whatever US prison he's sent to, one or more of them will do the world a favor.

If the US really wants him, the CIA will just go over there and take him.

He should be shot dead and left bleeding in the street by persons unknown, with no one ever taking credit for it.

All they understand is fear. And they should always be looking over their shoulder, wondering when or where its going to come from.

Soooo, specifically, what don't you like about our civilian courts? I'd like to know exactly what you mean. Near as I can tell people here get just as fair a trial as anywhere else. You may not like our death sentence, but this guy doesn't face that.
