What's your favorite Pet?

(Poll coming Soon, to a Forum near YOU)

So, what is your favorite kind of pet?

My favorite is definately the dogs. They're playful, very forgiving, loving, can be very mischievous, overall a great alternate for having kids. :p

Doggies

they are great fun, but it has to be big ones, not silly little lap dogs.

ideally toddlers should be able to saddle their dogs and ride them like ponies (great danes good for this).

they love you and are silly.

i howl with my dog sometimes like we are wolves in the wild.

I have 2 dogs, ones a mostly red nosed pitbull with just a slight bit of lab the other one is a mostly lab with just a tid bit of pit bull, they both think they're lap dogs. :D

I should have put rabbit in place of guinea pig, oh well, that'll fit into the other option. :)

Its ok for a dog to believe it is a lap dog, as long as it isn't actually a lap dog.

i also like French bulldogs and British bull dogs, staffies and the like. they're small but built like brick shit houses.

I like dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, and hamster, but I think I prefer cats. Bunnies and dogs both take quite of maintenance/attention, while fish aren't exactly the most interactive pets. With cats you basicallly just need to feed them, water them, let them in and out of the house, and then when they feel like it they'll come and cuddle with you.

So yes, cats for the lazy but affectionate.

I'll soon be getting a 3rd dog. Just waiting for my brothers dog to go into heat. She's an American Bulldog. He's going to breed her with a very rare German Bulldog. I have 2nd dibs on a male. He'll get like 150lbs. Very good dogs. Plus I won't have to worry about anybody breaking into my house either. Actually, I don't think I have to worry now since I do have 2 dogs already but what the hell. I'm a dog lover. This bulldog will be my last dog for awhile. I think I'm going to name him Bodacious.

my firends cat used to poo in her bed all the time.

my boyfriend had a cat that killed other cats.

my neighbours cats kill things and leave them in my garden and also poo on my driveway and in my flowers. they also fight and mate at all hours of the night around my street, it is terrible.

i don't think they are completely wonderful. some are cute and nice others are not.

sounds like that first cat had a problem... its not typical for cats to do that.
cats generally, once housetrained, dig a hole in the ground to poo in and cover it up again once they're done... much nicer than dogs shitting all over the pavement and the park...

as for killing things and leaving them on your doorstep.... that's their way of saying they love you :P

my dog has never pooed in the park or the pavement. i've trained her to do it im my garden on a special area. so it's mainly bad owners that cause to dog poo problemo.

my neighbours cat doesn't even know me. i have never fed it and its manky and matted. how do i get it to stop loving me?

well lets be clear.... dogs do it an awful lot more than cats. either its a natural dog thing, or most dog owners are bad owners. after all you don't see many cat litter bins around on the streets and in parks do you?

try kicking the cat? mangy, matted, matted cats are nasty and probably isn't at all well looked after :(

My one dog, Freedom, she craps in my next door neighbors yard but she said it was okay she says it helps her dogs crap in the one section which is on the side of the house.

Freedom isn't kept on a leash or chain, excellent, well behaved and good manner dog, very sensitive though. If I let her out of the back door, she typically stays in the back yard (no fence). If she is let out she'd be fine but I make sure she's supervised, I'm worried someone might dognap her. Very friendly. So I also bought her one of those spiked collars to try and deter most people from going into contact with her. It works too. One guy was riding his bike on the road and stopped about 2 houses down because he seen Freedom. All she was doing was sitting down in the yard look up and down the road, nothing threatening. I thought it was funny, I waved the guy by. Just having a pitbull weeds people away the collar is an added bonus. I really have to thank the media and irresponsible dog owners for scaring the public in general in regards to the pitbull breeds. Pitbulls, though, are one of the most loyal dogs you'll ever meet. They also pass the temperment test at an amazing 95% compared that the average dog passes at a 77%. It all depends on how the dogs are raised and any dog can bite. As for lock-jaw, it's a complete myth. I hate to break the news but it's physically impossible for any dog to have lock jaws. However, they are incredibly strong animals, that'll explain why they're classified as working dogs. I know originally, the bulldogs and pitbull breeds were intended to help control out of control bulls hence the name bulldog. Then the irresponsible dog owners who ought to be shot for abusing, starving, making aggressive, etc and then making them fight in a pit hence the name pitbull. Pitbulls techinally are terriers. Brief History.

I quite like snakes, they are beautiful and fascinating creatures and are very easy to look after.

Small creatures like gerbels are the worst. For such tiny animals they sure do need cleaning up after a lot. Also, they stay awake at night and keep you up with all that noise. I quite often contemplated feeding my gerbals to the cat.

Dogs are a bit too needy. Cats are perfect, they're demanding, arrogant, throw fur all over, and if you piss them off not at all too dignified to cut you for it. They also show affection when it suits their mood.

I do want a bird though, so I can teach it to insult guests.

Cats. I have four of them. Bonnie the Diva, Clyde (aka Bubba) the good old boy, Persephone the Queen of Hell the bi-polar prozac cat aka bitch kitty (that's her full name) and Emma.

I also have a snake and (my daughter's pets, actually) 8 tarantulas, a scorpion and a mouse.

I live in a townhouse so, while my neighbors keep dogs, I find it impractical (being lazy and unwilling to walk dogs in snow storms - one of which we're having right now - at least it's a storm to my untrained California eyes).

Often cats will approach people who dislike or are even scared of them. This is because humans tend to avoid eye contact if they are uncomfortable with something or someone. For cats direct eye contact is a challenge. Suggest if you want cat to stop loving you hiss at it while staring it down.

Voted cats even while one of ours is scratching sofa another eating christmas tree lights and the third with her paws on the fridge door.

Nope, not until I've had my say on the pesky critters. I don't own a cat, yet every day I have to clean up 7 or more baggies of cat poo before I can let my son out to play in the back yard. In the summer when the sun shines down the stench makes your nostrils spasm.

Dogs, if people own a dog they can be prosecuted for it pooing where it shouldn't.

Cats - cats are considered independent creatures and owners cannot be held responsible for their actions.

The reason I have to clean up is because cats carry a disease that can blind small children and its transmitted via their faeces. Cats actually fit the definition of VERMIN. Yet thanks to the cat protection league its illegal to attack a cat in any way. I suspect that also includes spraying them with water, I wouldn't put it past some zealous cat lover to try that one on and I can see it being upheld.

So this year, I, who don't own a cat and never will. Had to spend £50 on a pair of eletcronic cat deterrents. They work by a passive infra-red detector which, when it detects movement, bombards the area with ultrasound over a wide range of frequencies. They work very well. What I resent is that I am the one that had to spend money for something that someone elses pet does. They just go to work, kick the cat out so it doesnt mess in their house (god forbid) and leave it to use my yard as a toilet.

I don't hate cats. Actually I quite like them, they can be most affectionate. Just I think it's unsociable to keep them in urban areas. Very few people keep their cats trained to use litter trays indoors once they are able to roam outside.

But there's nothing I can do. I just have to keep paying out for the batteries to keep my machines running and hope that I dont have to replace the devices themselves any time soon.

I know this doesn't help you but, cats should be spayed or neutered and kept inside. The world is a dangerous place for any pet, there are predatory animals (foxes, coyotes, hawks) that find them quite tasty, cars, dogs and people who truly hate and actively try to kill them. Cats, unlike most dogs, can be perfectly happy inside if they have ample food and water, social and "intellectual" stimulation, affection and clean litter pans (I solved this one by getting the ones that automatically clean themselves - expensive, but worth it). I'm sorry that you are surrounded by irresponsible pet owners, I wish you luck.

Ahh cheers for the vote of sympathy. As you said there's nothing much anyone can do, I just have to bite the bullet and keep buying the batteries.

Interestingly enough however the city where I live is full of foxes. I've seen more in the 8 years Ive lived here than in the previous 25 I lived in the countryside. Fox Scat is an excellent deterrent but is even more stinky than cat. Back in the country I had a dog that used to love rolling in the stuff :(. He'd come bounding back, looking all pleased with himself and making everything living within 10 feet wilt. Then he'd give me reproachful looks as he spent the next 10 mins in the bath being doused with dog shampoo and the showerhead.

(just remembered: I even had one fox eat from my hand. was a new years eve and i'd been to a rock club in town. got chips (fries to the americans) on the way home and a fox ran under the xmass tree in the town center and watched me. I sat there with a chip held out and after a few mins he crept forward and snatched it before running off)

I was about to disagree with one of your statements then realized you said "unlike most dogs" My dogs love indoors. They love laying and sitting on the couch, my one dog prefers the recliner. They love the AC for most of the year. They enjoy outdoors as well. My one dog, she loves to lay either on a sand patch or the concrete and just sun bathe. In fact, both the dogs normally don't like to be outside for too long of a period. My one dog takes her paw to the door as if she's knocking to come back in, the other one isn't as fortunate as my female dog, he's kept on a cable. He is well on his way to being fully controlled by voice control but not yet so he doesn't get the privileges of being loose outside. I have to admit I was very fortunate in getting two very good dogs.

I just got the news that my brother's American Bulldog may be pregnant. That they had another's guy stud at their house (in the backyard, actually) all week. Stud is a very rare German Bulldog. I can't wait. I have second dibs on a male pup. That'll be my 3rd and last dog for a while. I'm so excited. She better have atleast 2 males or I'll be pretty upset. I can't wait. :D

I have a 4 year old German Shepherd, hes the smartest dog I've ever had. So far he has learned 36 commands and knows how to open doors, turn on the dishwasher, and pick up his toys. And, hes the best home protection system there is.

I like cats too, but I hate cleaning shitboxes every day. YUK!

Having a Dog downstairs to greet you when you get home, having a cat upstairs to lay on your feet when you go to bed.

So, what is your favorite kind of pet?

My favorite is definately the dogs. They're playful, very forgiving, loving, can be very mischievous, overall a great alternate for having kids. :p

Fish are awesome. I've heard watching makes you smarter, though I'm not sure if its proven.

*snip (about cats' shitty pooing habits)*
Indeed. And I hate those so-called ultrasound devices. Am I the only (grown-up) one whose ears haven't been destroyed by loud music enough or are there other people who just cringe when one of those things go off?

Other than that, I'm more of a cat person than a dog person. Never had either of them, though. I prefered my dwarf hamsters. Aww :)
