Well, the HSC scores finally came out in New South Wales. I thought I'd start this thread for any other NSGers who want to talk about the big exam now that its finally over.

I got an 88.4 . I was sort of hoping for 90+ but I'm fairly happy with the overall result.

How do the scores work for you New South Welsh/General Easterners?

56.90. I have Asperger Syndrome and a general lack of interest, so for me, that's spectacular. Especially since I beat some of my mates who are pretty smart.

Once again, can somebody explain the numbers to me. If my results are comparable they will be posted!

If memory serves, its a rank derived from a weighted average, assuming that every student who completed the Year 10 exams went on to Year 12 and studied the same subjects.

The specifics are kept secret (or at least not told to me when I did it), but generally a UAI of about 80 means you're in the top 20% of the state, etc.

Back in 2002, mine was 80.7 - beating my brother by a whole 0.3

When I did it it was a straight percentage ranking. if you got 100.0 you were top of the state. They gave you a * if you got 15% or under. But people complained that no one wanted to know they were in the bottom half of the state. So they scaled it up so that almost everyone passed. Of course then the rankings didn't mean anything again and they may as well of left it as a score.

Also means that people from my generation always look less smart than kids in later years as no one got scaled up .. whereas in later years literally everyone got scaled up.

So a 90 now doesn't mean the same thing as a 90 (oh god gonna show my age here 14 years ago)
