The four from Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, ignited aerosol sprays to burn Katy James, 17, during four-hours of torture.

Wynette Darkes, 17, and Hayley Kirby, 18, were given six and a half years in prison. James Smale, 17 and Robert Hart, 18, were given indefinite terms.

They all pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.

They also all admitted attempting to pervert the cause of justice.

The two males cannot be considered for parole until they have served at least three years and three months.

Worcester Crown Court heard the attack took place at Darkes and Smales' flat in Burcot Lane on 23 March.

Prosecuting, Nicholas Cartwright said Miss James was also verbally abused, threatened with a knife, battered with a chair and foot-rest.

She was forced to drink a glass containing urine and cigarette butts and made to eat chilli powder.

Such nice kids. Is this what you all mean by "chavs"?

What they did was truly horrific, however none of them are kids.

Is it just me, or does that sentence seem excessively lax? Only six years for torturing someone?

what is it with women and putting us guys to shame:

4 guys hate Mr X who finds himself now being beaten up by the 1 man with fisty cuffs rules

4 girls hate lady X who finds herself being smashed against a pavement by 26 girls every time they see her

And they say men cause all the worlds problems…

To deal with unruly chavettes trying to hurt your women CTP recommends pouring drink over them it has never failed me(the smellier the drink the better)

the fact that there teens and that this is mob mentality might have something to do with it (plus 6 years is a long time)

Two were 17, and two were 18. So you're dealing with two adults and two people that could very easily be tried as adults. Not exactly "teens" IMO. And yes six years is a while, but they're eligible for parole in 3 years 3 months. This is essentially just a slap on the wrist. What kind of message is this that you can basically get away with torture?

That's why you should carry a small tupperware container full of diarrhea with you everywhere you go. Anti-Chav potion, that is. Damn effective too, I'd imagine.

Bloody chavs. They're like a pack of wolves. Together you stand very little chance. Get one by themselves and you're probably going to win.

That's what I thought at first when reading it, but maybe those two weren't involved as much as the others. Still, I for one think that they deserve to be locked up for life. Some people are just vile.

18 has a one in the front for a reason and no even if they do make parole 3 years is a bloody long time and certainly not a "slap on the wrist" especially since it is there youth they are wasting in a cell

You've not seen Austin Powers, have you?

But, the point is using it as a self-defense weapon. That's why it absolutely must be carried in a tupperware container.

Sorry, I call bullshit on this. The nature of the crime is especially heinous and should carry an especially harsh sentence. 3 years is pratically nothing. And I bet they're not even going to be serving in a real prison. Probably some juvenile dentention center, or some kind of minimum security deal. And youths my ass. Two are adults in the eyes of the law, and two are pratically adults, and are certainly aware of what they did.

Hm, I should have included something like that in my other posts. But if its anything like the general population in Gwinnett county it won't be so bad for them.

Yeeeah. In Britain?

...which makes them minors. Don't be trying to slap on certain American states' style legality to this - not every place in the world tries minors as adults.

By the by, I'm not defending their actions - and I also actually believe the sent. was too short - I just don't believe vengeance has a place in the courtroom.

Did they get those ships back, by the way?

I'd heard a while back that their prisons are so full they may have to get the prison ships back out. :p

I certainly believe the two seventeen year olds should have been tried as adults, if they were not. The article makes no mention of it.

I just hope I manage to bring my son up better than the parents of those four. Yes, I know they were "individuals" in their own right but parenting still has a significant effect on the outlook and attitudes of young people last time I checked.

Anecdotal evidence:

A friend of mine is a secondary school teacher in the midlands. He asked one of his more troublesome pupils how he expected to get gainful employment and make something of himself if he didn't at least put some effort in. The child replied "I'm just going to go on the dole and do deals on the side like my dad does".

Sign of the times I guess.

No, this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6072454.stm) is the latest article I can find about it. I don't think it's a bad idea, as long as it's only those who have committed the worst crimes that are sent to the prison ships. It's certainly better than letting torturers go free after only three years.

Heh, mobile Alcatrazes. Nice Idea, but I doubt it will be here to stay even if it happens. Why? sooner or later one will sink and there will be a kneejerk public outcry about how those poor murderers and rapists deserved better than to be drowned in the freezing cold north atlantic (the wardens may or may not be forgotten in that outcry).

/ding congratulations, mogtaria has ascended to level 35 Cynic.

considering what happened last time we had prisons ships not a chance in hell am I going to let such things run, not only is it a gross neglection of fundamental needs as a human being but also as an animal and lets not forget how much such a thing would cost the tax payer

A jolly fact is even in the 1800 we let such monstrous ship run only as a temporary storage for criminals

Neglecting how long years are is one thing but ignoring a lesson a history class I school is something entirely different
