We probably just tune a lot of things out since we don't rely on smell.

Actually, this doesn't surprise me much. I met this guy in the corps, an old Gunny, who'd just decided to retire. The reason was, his sense of smell was going. That said, he could tell the difference between any member of the platoon at five feet - from behind. I figure it was probably sound as well as scent, but still impressive as helll.

we do rely on smell more than we realize...it's been known for a long time that humans can detect pheromones, we're just not conscious of it .......women who are in close social group go have their monthly cycle in order of dominance in that social group.....in some recently research it was found that women pick a mate to father a child based on smell....
