Recommendation of Iraq Report

I have just been wondering lately, one of the recommendations of the recent Iraq Study Groups' Report was to extend diplomatic talks to such regional players as Iran and Syria, which in itself has been rejected by some and accepted by others.

But what concerned me greatly is that the US administration will not decoupled these talks from the issue of Iranian nuclear enrichment, albeit they are separating the two by dealing with the nuclear issue in the UN, but they are not dropping it. What really concerned me if that many commentators and the like are talking about playing 'hard ball diplomacy' with Iran in reference to Iraq.

So what I am wondering is, does it not seem that Iran is on the diplomatic high ground here, it is essentially after all the US coming to them for help because Iraq is turning bad for them. How can the US on one hand throw all the diplomatic mud at Iran over uranium enrichment yet on the other hand expect them to help out with Iraq and with stability in the region, I think Iran has already said that any talks would only happen if the nuclear thing is dropped.

It's not all that hard to see it that way from the layman's perspective. But this is after all, the same administration that said "screw the rest of the world! You're all cowards" and some 2 years later is now going "uhm, help?"
