Channel 5's nightly gambling show...

I forgot what it's called, but on Channel 5 (UK) last night, there was a numbers question that at least two people guessed the answer was 220 and were told they were wrong. I checked at least 3 times, very carefully, on my calculator, and reckoned it up mentally. The people were actually right - anyone else notice this? P.S. I'm complaining to ofcom either later today, or tomorrow.

you see because Hong Kong Phooey is a "mild mannered" janitor and his sidekick is a stripy cat called Spot. He is like the worst superhero ever. Spot does all the work and get's none of the credit and Hong Kong Phooey doesn't even realise! Seriously, are you trying to tell me that it isn't propaganda?

I'm just suprised that you won't make the effort to inform yourself about such a subversive and dangerouse threat to our or your or whoevers nations youth..

if such a show was never shown in Poland, I have nothing to worry about.

The questions are designed to trick people. The question is set up to make the answer look obvious, however there will be an alternative way to calculate the answer. It's the classic - if it looks to good to be true then it probably is too good to be true.

I remember watching a similar quiz show. The question asked which of the following pairs of eyes belonged to Jennifer Anniston. After a while all the separate answers and been gone through, but these answers were all wrong. People began to call in and say 'all of them' or 'none of them'. Finally someone rung in and said the answer was 'A and C', he was told he was right and won the money. The question is ambigious enough so that you can't claim you were mislead, and the company can claim you made an incorrect assumption and that they did not mislead you.

couldnt you have posted the question? the "errors" of quiz shows arent all that interesting wihtout the details. either it was a trick or they will announce their mistake.

It's all a big swindle to make your call their billion-pound-an-hour phone lines anyway.

Providing the question in the same wording as was used would have been helpful.

Heh. For some reason this thread reminds me of my pub quiz writing days. In one quiz I included the question "What is the answer to 3+4*5?"

Everyone who did it mentally said 35 and got it wrong.

Everyone who did it on calculators (mostly the ones that come built into their mobile phones) also said 35 and got it wrong.

Nobody thought to consider order of operation and give the correct answer of 23 :D

Anyway, the point is that it could be possible that you made a simple mistake (like that one) which led you to the wrong answer.
