Boxing's good too. Last fight I watched was the Taylor/Ouma fight on HBO. I used to box a little bit myself, but now I'm a bit out of shape. It was a lot of fun.

My favorite sports to watch, in order, are: Baseball (Mets), Football (Jets), Soccer, Tennis, Hockey, Basketball, Skiing/snowboarding, and Speedskating. I will watch most other sports if nothing else is on, except for golf. My favorite sports to play, in order, are: Baseball, soccer, (street) football, and racquetball. my favourite sports:

Basketball (european, not american)
Road bycicle (like the Giro or the Tour)
Soccer
Cricket (never played it, but looks fun, although matches are a bit long)
Rugby
Windsurf and sailing (except America's Cup, too many stupid rules and they go far too slow)
Hockey and skating (on ice)
Skiing
Table tennis

sports I really hate or fail totally to understand:

Snowboard
Olympic fencing (looks unreal)
Volleyball
Womens' soccer and basketball (too much violence)
Softball (why mistreat baseball like that?)
Tennis (*hatehatehatehate*)
Waterpolo
Polo

Women's football makes my eyes bleed.

And can someone explain why American Football is called football at all? It's more like rugby, which is properly known as rugby football, but would never be known as football simply because it doesn't involve using the foot the majority of the time.

No, chess is a game not a sport. This is clearly true, because you need to have some mental ability to play chess.

I play Inline Hockey in winter and cricket in summer. I've been on teams playing soccer, basketball, indoor cricket, indoor soccer and canoe polo in the past.

The only sports I really follow are Rugby, Cricket and Ice Hockey, but there are others that I'll watch if they're on or a particularly good/big game is on.

Cool, a thread where I can really get myself flamed and hated :D

Here goes (football= soccer here):

I detest football, I think it should be banned or at least only televised matches should be allowed. It brings with it a subculture of violence and prejudice where a fan of one team is not safe to walk in the city of another team while displaying their allegiance. Children in school often have to lie about which team they support to avoid being bullied. The number of lives lost in the name of football is totally unacceptable. Players get an obscene ammount of money, and whats this of being able to buy and sell players of foreign nationality? Surely that defeats the point of having a national team when half the players on said team have been bought or loaned from other countries?. The whole thing is a shame, causes far too much trouble AND its boring to watch. Personally I can think of far more fun things to do than watch 22 scantily clad grown men kick a bag of air around a patch of grass (or mud) for 90 mins while a hundred thousand odd fans get themselves worked up enough to take part in a riot.

Yes yes, I know the riots are often caused by a minority but it rarely ends in a minority rioting, thus I say that fans are unable to maintain their self control after a watching a match.

Football long ago ceased to be "The Beautiful Game", it's an ugly, comercialised pantomime.

Canoeing
Sailing

Like most sports that get broadcasted on TV, you know.
Also rioting is very important. Look at what happens in Siena AFTER the race. Some years ago the Contrada dell'Istrice was banned for 2 years because of rioting.

Eh? What are you on about, man? National teams are made up of players from one country - you can't loan or buy in players of other nationalities.

If you mean clubs, you have a (crap) point. Clubs have no responsibility to the FA of the country they play in to ensure they have a certain number of 'native' players. Clubs are (mostly) privately owned businesses, and it is a fundamental principle of the economics that most countries are based on that there should be free movement of labour.

I don't give a flying, be-spectacled fuck. If Australian pitches were not rendered condusive to one of Warne, McGrath and Ponting, and were a tad more mutually compliant, and if the general constituents of bowling; swing and sweam, were if any use, then playing in Australia would be of more merit.

Couldn't understand the latter point, however every sub-continental side complains about Aussie pitches, whilst the racism endemic to the crowds is frankly deplorable.
