Rockin' Out

So, I've got a habit of vegging out to various enjoyable bits of rock, and genres associated with rock. If I'm feelin' mellow, it's time for Pink Floyd, if I'm reflective and philosophical it's Led Zeppelin, if I'm in need of a good pick me up, it's definitely Rush. Which, is exactly what I'm listening to right now. So, what do you folks like to just kick back and listen to for a while?

As a sidenote, I'm on a 2112 streak with Rush right now.

Led Zepplin, Rush, Kansas, Eagles, and The Doors. I also like to just put on XM channels 46 and 49 and see what's playing.

Ah, can't forget the doors, espescially after that little incident at the end of freshman year...

Sigur Rós, U2, Radiohead and obviously something Madchesterlike.

I love to listen to Belle and Sebastian while on a bus or train. It's paradise.

Finally, some respect for Rush. Speaking of Rush, I've got "Closer To The Heart" droning in my mind over and over. As for actually listening to music when I'm in a certain mood...

...It has to be the Sex Pistols when I'm hyped up. When I'm mellow, it's The Who. When I'm thinking about a lot of things, it's Husker Du and Bob Mould. When I'm in an uppy mood, it's the Ramones.

I can listen to Rush in pretty much any mood, however "Circumstances" on their Hemispheres LP (it *has* to be on vinyl for the right effect) is especially good when I'm thinking about what to do with my life, and how things might've been different had I made other decisions.

Here's a Bob Mould video for you guys to check out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTaIWHBMfUQ

Well, I wouldn't know, since I haven't been a drinker since I was five-and-a-half years old.

Seriously. I drank two bottles of Zima and half a bottle of Shiner Bock in one afternoon. I never had that much alcahol previously, and I haven't had that much since.

I guess I should've mentioned that Mould is also great for when you're depressed as hell.

if i need a real kick in the arse i'll listen to some storming drum & bass, anything off the ram lable tends to get my blood pumping (and some of the old school stuff too like aphrodite and the like), and for more uplifting (rather that pile driving) tunes shy fx & t power are great production team. as far as rock music goes the only stuff that really gets me off my arse is metallica or motorhead, and the odd SOAD track, oh, and RATM. mostly i like wistful indy tunes at the moment cuz i'm not really into getting off my arse. cum new year though and i'll be unstoppable, trust me.

When I'm relaxed, mellow, I'll listen to Radiohead, Mogwai, Sigur Rós, Doves, Elbow, Gomez...that sort of laid back thing.

When I'm happy and upbeat then Broken Social Scene, Orko, The Go! Team, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Badly Drawn Boy...that's were it's at.

When I'm angry I'll get some Biffy Clyro, Oceansize, Sucioperro, Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid....stuff that's a bit heavier, faster-paced, but nothing to really annoy me. S'good, calms me a bit, but not too much.

When I'm a bit of a depressive I'll get some more Radiohead (different albums), Brand New, Death Cab, Jeff Buckley....stuff that sits well with someone who's down.

Alot of those bands I can listen to at any time though. Here's some more that I just enjoy having on, whatever my mood or situation: People in Planes, Orko, The White Stripes, Weezer, Pixies, RHCP, Snow Patrol, 65daysofstatic, The Who, Cream, The Kinks, Led Zep, Ben Folds....all bands that suit any situation.

The Go! Team are great, but they're one of the few bands that I really definitely do need to be in the right mood for. Alot of the time that just...out and out happiness is enough to make me want to kill them.

Orko are from Scotland...I think their album got general release in about September (although I got hold of a copy in about April). They're fantastic. You should check them out: http://myspace.com/orko (although their three best songs aren't on that, which is a pity)

People in Planes used to be known as Tetra Splendour if you ever heard of them. They're also very good.

Yeh i know what you mean, sometimes i can't belive why they aren't everywhere and then other times i can't take how utterly relentless their music is.

i like, reminds me a bit of my vitriol, incubus (occaisionally), and early idlewild in some ways, but with a more american vocal style.

People in Planes used to be known as Tetra Splendour if you ever heard of them. They're also very good.
name rings a bell but i couldn't place them at all.

I usually don't listen to music when I'm in a specific mood, unless I'm depressed, when I'll listen to a sad song. I do get the urge to listen to certain songs at times, but that urge doesn't depend on my mood, except as noted above.
