We're all doomed...

Nancy nominated Silvestre Reyes to be the Chairman of the chairman of the House intelligence committee. He was asked some questions by a reporter from Congressional Weekly. I'm paraphrasing a little...

Q. Is Al Qeada Sunni or Shiite?
A. I think mostly Shiite but it's a mixture.

Real answer, AQ is completely Sunni and if a Shiite were to walk into an AQ dinner party they'd cut his head off and play soccer with it.

Q. Who is Hezbollah?
A. Oh, do you have to ask me these question at five in the morning?

You all know the real answer. This guy is going to head the House Intelligence committee even though it's clear he doesn't have the knowledge to effectively lead because Nancy and jane are in a catfight. Nice to know that even in the hands of the Dems politics and personality trump what's best for the nation.

Well it was 5 in the morning, he was probably a sleep. I don't think anyone in a position of his could be that stupid had he been properly awake.

This was explained on The Daily Show: Congressmen are appointed to head the committees based on who is the worstchoice.

That's why Mark Foley headed the the Committee on missing and exploited children and why Ted (The Internet is a series of tubes) Stevens heads the committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. :p

So there you go. :)

Just be glad that this was the runner-up choice. The best(worst) candidate already has a job as President. :D

I'm just this guy who works at a place and reads stuff on the internet and argues about them on a couple forums. I like to get pretty drunk on Friday and Saturday night at various clubs and bars around my city. If I closed the bar at two after having drunk eight beers, two shots of So Co and a couple Mojitos and you set my alarm at 4 AM really loud so it blasted me up out of bed I would immediately be able to tell you who Hezbollah is and I've never read a classified intelligence document in my life. Our enemy is doing all they can to learn as much as possible about us. Ranking, longtime members of our intelligence oversite committees in Congress don't know the first thing about them.

That’s more than two key Republicans on the Intelligence Committee knew when I interviewed them last summer. Rep. Jo Ann Davis, R-Va., and Terry Everett, R-Ala., both back for another term, were flummoxed by such basic questions, as were several top counterterrorism officials at the FBI.

The original story from Congressional Quarterly.

God forbid if some emergency occurs and he has to make a decisive choice at 5 in the morning!

oh and the other thread about this is here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=510526).

The best argument for needing to understand who’s what in the Middle East is probably the mistaken invasion itself, despite the preponderance of expert opinion that it was a terrible idea — including that of Bush’s father and his advisers. On the day in 2003 when Iraqi mobs toppled the statue of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad, Bush was said to be unaware of the possibility that a Sunni-Shia civil war could fill the power vacuum, according to a reliable source with good White House connections.

If President Bush and some of his closest associates, not to mention top counterterrorism officials, have demonstrated their own ignorance about who the players are in the Middle East, why should we expect the leaders of the House Intelligence Committee to get it right?
