This made me laugh

I'm writing the works cited list for my research paper right now and in the MLA handbook I came upon something that made me chuckle. Example Number 35 for Electronic sources section shows you how to correctly cite "Web forum posting". Am I totally misreading this or is it telling you how to cite a message board? Who in their right mind would do that? I can't believe I never noticed that example before.

It would make sense if you were quoting some scientist or expert that was participating in an online discussion.

:D

I would have loved to cite this forum in some of my degree course essays. Imagine what sort of shit I could have backed up.

How often does that happen though? And even if it did, how could you be sure he is who he says he is?

If I were doing research on idiocy or dogmatism I'd certainly cite NSG.

I was reading a thesis (of sorts) by a student of one of my friends, he used the phrase "ROFLMAO" in his paper..........twice.

I know that I am not supposed to write notes in the margin, but I couldn't help myself.

poor kid, he thinks he is going to college. :(

Also, sort of off topic I got mailed to me this pretty booklet from the local school district about the P.A.S.S. standards for Kindergarten for my 5 year old, so that I know if she is "on level".

There is a forward written by the superintendent that has the basic points that she should know for the test they want me to send her to take.

point 3 is

"should recognize rimes like cat/back"

apparently the superintendent of the schools can't rhyme or spell. Yeah, I think I will let them test my kid

What you trying to say?

I'll have you know that I'm within one standard deviation of normality. And that's non-ironic normality! None of that "I'm saying I'm normal because I want you to think I'm strange" normality!

I'm more normal than you.

Serious webfora where people very knowledgeable about particular subjects make long and informed posts do exist you know ;)
And of course quite a few writers/politicians/etc know what a webforum is. They might post quotable material.

Many people on this forum are not even within five standard deviations of normal. :D However there are a few of us who are very normal.

It could work, though I never did any essays on subjects where that might be appropriate. That DCD quote in your sig, however...

You could cite the usenets, I suppose. Back then the serious people outnumbered the trolls.

But don't quote me on that.
