.. and it turns into a rant about how if the Church is against same sex marriage, they must be against adoption too..
I'm writing a paper on same sex marriage and if it should be legal or not, and I mentioned religion and its issues with the subject, and now I have this random rant.
I have no idea how it got to that point, but it did.
Did you ever go into a rant while writing a paper?
Should I keep it in there and hand it in?

i often get into rants. try to tone it down if you can, or at least offer the alternative opinions. because a onesided report will be marked down.

That's where you went wrong. Religion is irrelevant to the subject, so you shouldn't get sidetracked.

Depends on what politics your teacher has. Whenever I had to write a paper that wasn't strictly a report I always tailored it to the views of that teacher.
Kind of hard to judge without seeing the paper. It could provide an interesting critique of their stance, particularly if it serves to show an incoherency in their policy.

Check it carefully, Rants tend to follow weird tangents that for a report, would make it seem haphazzard and poorly thought out.
I would suggest a re-write.
Rants are good... they mean you're passionate about the subject. Just direct your opinions into a more controlled, logical format and you'll be good to go.

No, mine always go into stories that involve either Socrates (who almost always has a vagina from which centipedes regularly emerge), ponies or cannibalism. Needless to say, one of them has never been turned in.
Should I keep it in there and hand it in?
Cut and paste it away to some remote corner of your hard drive, it might come in useful some day, but it probably will do you know favors in an academic setting.

What bit are you ranting about? for or against?
