Fear of dogs

I dislike dogs. I fear them when they follow me, barking, or approaching me. I hate it when the little shits start sniffing or clawing at me and when they growl or bark I want to drop kick them. I used to have a pet dog who I liked a lot and he never did any of this. I guess the fear element comes into play in the sense that you cant reason with these animals. Anyone else fear and loath dogs?

The poor mutts are just crying out at the injust lives they lead as human playthings. Why don't you just put the poor thing out of its misery and eat it?

I don't fear or loathe dogs, considering I have one. You only need to fear the really crazy ones. Most (if not all) dogs are very hyper when they see new people, all you need to do if stick your hand out and let them sniff you. :) Dogs are cute, but cats>dogs.

And no, you can't really reason with dogs, but you can just get to know them and let them get to know you.

And the reason your old dog didn't do this was because he was used to you.

yeah, theres another thing, people cant stomach the thought of eating dogs (evolution has something to do with) but I think its great. Dogs should be on the main course! there animals just like cows and we have no problem eating them

I read somewhere that theyre not, the reason they arent loyal is because they lack that part in their brains which enables them to remember faces.

Of course you can. Examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_communication

Establishment of a proper social hierarchy is especially important. I would think that failure to do so is a major cause of all sorts of behavioral problems.

They're not really cats. They're CIA robots with cameras in their eyes.

I got bit by an evil zombie collie from hell when I was seven, for about 4 years I was afraid of dogs, then my niece got a sheltie for christmas. I befriended the dog and the long time strife between our species has ended.....

Now I want a Mastiff, :D .

How can you fear something that adorable?

Oh, and I know my old cat definitely was able to recognize me. Might not be a visual thing with them, but one of their senses must clue them in.

Dogs are evil and should never come near me. :(

I got bit in the face by a German Shepherd when I was 5.

Since then, Ive been bit by dobermans, pit bulls, retrievers, and various other dogs whose owners assured me their dog was "friendly".

However, I can get nearly any cat to come to me and let me pet it, including cats whose owners claimed the cats were 'vicious'.

I have had cats virtually all my life. They are smart, independent, quiet, clean, and hysterically funny on catnip. The only cat I ever had any trouble with was one that kept knocking things off my shelves (on purpose) because he wanted me to let him outside. I had him hidden in my dorm room in college. Once I gave him away to someone who could let him go outside, his neurosis stopped.

So it's not that I don't like dogs---they apparently don't like ME.

The fault lies with the owners of such overly aggressive dogs. The unparalleled ignorance of Homo sapiens sapiens has somehow determined that such breeds as "dobermans, pit bulls, [and] retrievers" are supposed to be "aggressive" or "tough" or whatever else. K-9 police units and other such security or guard applications are cited as the model; but what the average schmuck doesn't get is that such dogs are not aggressive, but are very highly trained to dispense force only when required and only when commanded (and then to stop immediately when commanded). Of course, the average schmuck, being the idiot he is, ignores completely the "training" part and instead abuses his animal into the monstrosities that you cite in your post.

There's nothing wrong with aggressive dogs that hanging their owners by the reproductive organs wouldn't solve.

I used to walk a neighbor's bulldog during the day, and he was quite easily the friendliest dog I'd ever met. The only injury it caused me were the bruises he left while jumping around excited and happy, as he at least seemed to weigh several metric tons. :D

(edit: the explaination for the cats is also simple. Homo sapiens sapiens, again in his ignorance, assumes that cats are aloof and unsocial, and so avoid interacting with their cats at the same level as dogs. Thus, cats are better able to avoid the corruption and abuse at the hands of the hairless apes, and thus aggression doesn't appear to be as serious a problem. I've had the same experience; the vast majority of cats I've met, even on the street, were either friendly or at least not directly violent)

Me too, me too!

Dogs can be adorable (I don't have to put up with walking one, but there's a really cute little jack russell on my street who comes in every now and then to say hi; or more likely for food!). But cats saucy little devils; I love that! Plus, kittens are far too adorbale.

I'm pretty sure Retreviers are known for being 'good with kids' et al; but, anyways...

In my experiences the dogs I was least nervous around were my neighbour's Rottweiller and my ex's family's pitbull, because they were both rather docile.

I've been bit by a lab and a poodle. :(

And chased while biking by more things then you can imagine, the worst being a dalmation, it's like a doberman with cruise control. And people wonder what the bokudo's for.
