Setting up Microsoft Outlook

I've been toying with the idea of setting up my own Microsoft Outlook e-mail account, so I was wondering how one might go about doing that. Hotmail has been good to me, but I can't stand all the advertisement anymore, so I just want my own private e-mail account on Outlook. So how do ya set it up?

Um...an email server to start? Outlook doesn't make you an email address, it just acts as an interface between you and your email. You can't so easily just make an email address, you need an email server.

Ahh, well that sucks.

aren't you in college? most colleges give email addresses to their students. You'd just need the proper settings (which you can prob get from your college computer help desk) to configure outlook to interface with your college email.

Hah, I just set up Outlook to combine all of my email accounts yesterday...synchronicity much? However, Outlook only collects messages from email accounts you already have so you'll need another email client to set it up.

My recommendation is to just get Gmail. I'm sure I've got about 100 invites left, so if you can't get one I'll send one to you.

I've heard you have to "upgrade" your Hotmail account to be able to use it with Outlook or Outlook Express.

I would also recommend you go with Gmail. If you really want to use Outlook you can set Gmail to allow POP, but I would recommend using Gmail in your browser. I like their label system (as opposed to folders) and the conversation view is pretty nice too. Besides, it looks nice and the ads (when they're there) are Google text ads and really aren't obtrusive at all. Plus Google doesn't send you annoying e-mails every week. I also have invitations if you want them. Telegram me.

Hmm, what do I do about my MSN buddy list though. I do have some people there that I like talking to, and Hotmail does have that 30 day thing.

I don't see why you couldn't keep MSN and Gmail. I think Outlook actually has stuff for MSN on it, so take a look.

I use Gmail entirely for my e-mail, but I still use MSN Messenger for IM. I'm very sure signing into Messenger counts as signing in to Hotmail since I almost never open up my old Hotmail account otherwise.

Can't use hotmail in Outlook or Thunderbird or Evolution. MS would lose ad revenue and we can't have that now can we? If you are willing to rebuild your contact list, you can get a new email address. Gmail allows you to use Outlook/Thunderbird/Evolution. They even provide instructions. Your ISP might provide you an email account, these almost always require Outlook/Thunderbird/Evolution so there will be quality instructions.

You can use any email account for MSN.
