I was really hoping this guy was going to be found alive, but odds were against him. Its even sadder that he wasnt aware that his wife and children were safely recovered.

I dont know all the details about this. Just that its a sad tragedy.
Hopefully, people will take some notice and be a little prepared for situations like this.
I hate to see a guy lose like this. If he stayed with his familiy,he most likely would have survived.

My prayers goes out to his wife and children and to all who knew him.

Mine too. This started as a vacation, if I'm not mistaken.
I guess you never know how your day could turn out. Especially if you arent prepared.

Wrong. If he had stayed with his family, he would definitely be alive. This is why the first rule of being lost/stranded is to stay put.
While I do have sympathy for the family and am sorry that the man died, the whole story brings one thing to mind: There's no way any respectable news program should have shown this for as long as they did. There's a coup going on in Fiji, and channels like CNN decided to bring half-hour long stuff about finding the man's pants.

I said likely, as I dont know the details. I'm thoroughly trained in survival, different situations call for different action.

We heard about the coup in Fiji too.
Maybe in Fiji, they heard more about their coup and less about lost pants.
Sometimes, you're a little more interested in the closer to home stuff.
