*raises hand*

Robot wars was cooler. It had circular saws and pneumatic spikes.

I remember it. Then on battlebots, someone built a bot that spun at a few thousand rpm and had large iron teeth on its shell. It could beat anything. Then it was cloned. That is when things went downhill. I liked the one on TLC the best. The robots had to be able to do something other than fight (which made the spinners less common).

I can't remember the name, but the one with the spinning hammers was pretty spectacular to watch. I saw it fight once where it actually slammed the other bot against the side of the ring.

Incidently, I've worked in that hanger on another show and as of three days ago live a short walk from it.

Not that that matters or is really all that cool.

The one I am thinking of is basicall the shape of an upside-down pie tin, with triangular prisms on it.

It fought the bot that had just one the super-uber-mega- heavyweight match. The battle was ended in less than ten seconds. The other bot was a giant three wheeled axe (it was more of a giant knifish-sythe, but it was used like an axe). It chopped the spinner, and due to sheer luck, the spinning on sythe collision launched the spinner into the axe-bot. The axe-bot was left wife only its sythe in a reusable state. The rest was too mangled. Next week. Every second bot was a spinner, and only cause spinner vs spinner fights sucked.

I remember Robot Wars in the UK, saw some Battlebots when they showed it over here...

I went to a couple of Robot Wars meets where fights were held(Between the robots, not the robot builders) and you could see the robots close up and talk to the builders. Good times.

The best robots were Razer, (Best damaging power, could literally crush a robot to death with it's claw creating pressure but only won the UK championship once because of bad luck on other occasions denying it's full potential.), Chaos 2 (Won the UK Championship multiple times) Hypnodisc, Tornado and Gemini, but there was many, and the UK scene was flourishing with brilliant designs to the extent a number of big-hitting US robots came over for a UK vs US tournament and had their bottoms spanked. One was a spinner, and the other was one with a large hammer.

Then there was a European tournament, and the UK won that, and I'm pretty sure there was a Europe vs US tournament and the UK on behalf of Europe won it.

Sadly, with the BBC not recommiting to television rights for Robot Wars, Channel 5 picked the rights up, but it just seemed to me the quality of new robots seemed to decline, and no new contenders came to challenge the established ones, and there was talk of some of the established ones were going to retire and not enter new robots, and Channel 5 kept moving the times it showed Robot Wars around to the extent I did not keep up with it anymore.

I don't think anybody shows it now, but I believe tournaments non televised are still held, but only those on the scene will be in the knowledge about times, dates and locations.
