Mythological beasts

I love mythology! I think there is so much truth to be gleaned from it. It's subordinate to Scripture, of course, and given a choice between the two, one ought to choose Scripture, but I think people should read more mythology.
Anyway, I got into this conversation with my brothers about mythological animals and what has the most interesting abilities and stuff (nothing too intellectual). And I was wondering what the majority thought.
So, I apologize for the cliche sounding question, but if you had to be a mythological creature (anything not purely human), which would you be and why? Any reason's good. I'm just curious about what people know about and what they think would be the best choice.

lugh, half god half deamon. eventually becomes head of all the warrior gods. no army can defeat him due to his spear he got from the city, Gorias. not sure how he died. but he's a fairy now anyway. i had to do an essay on him for college.

I've always been partial to gryphon (also: griffin, gryfyn, griffen, gryffin, griffyn...if only because it can be spelled so many ways :D )
A basilisk. 'Death stare' takes on a much more literal meaning.

Vampire for immortality and seductive/coercive charisma. If I had any reason to think a centaur could be immortal, then I might go for that. You could give your friends rides. Man's torso on the body of horse... might make up for the lack of seductive charisma.

Mythology is truth: Truth clouded by the sin of Man. But Scripture is Truth: God's perfect, infallible revelation. There are many reasons to argue for this. They are all necessary proof, but not suficient proof. In other words, the final word is "faith."

If not a Jagannath, then I would be the Kargadan of Persian myth,Lord of the Desert,a mythical uniform-like creature. The kargadan was an extremely ferocious beast, driving away from its territory animals as big as the elephant. It is said it would fight an elephant and kill it.
Either that,or an elasmotherium or unicorn rhino,if you can consider (possibly-pre)historical animals part of the historical tradition.

I love Totoro! He's so cute with his little umbrella! :D Don't know if they come in female form (Totoro strikes me as male), though. The little blue and white ones in 'My Neighbour Totoro' were adorable, too. Pokemon so ripped off Totoro when they designed Pikachu. Totoro's furry so he's much cuter than that lightning rat.
I also have a soft spot for griffins/gryphons. I love birds (having only had birds because of family allergies to furs) so I'd like to be anything birdlike; a hippogriff would be nice as well, or perhaps a phoenix.
Foxes are adorable! I've always loved foxes - I was lucky enough to spot a red fox crossing the road when I was 8 - before the fields in my area were swamped by houses. So that kitsune thing sounds cute.
Are there any feline mystical creatures; other than a sphinx? I'd love to try being a beautiful, fluffy cat that can dart around, maybe even become invisible at will. Wait, the invisibility thing sounds a bit like that Cheshire Cat.
I suppose if the Greek gods are allowed, then I'd like to be Dionysus.
Damn, the guy has a constant drunk high, tons of nymphs, has his own method of morals that he carries out with impunity and on top of it all he can turn into animals. It don't get much better than that :)
And think of how easy it would be to convert friends over to your side when your rallying cry is "Pass the wine!"Do gods/godesses qualify as mythological beasts? I'm not sure that it'd be so great to be a female god; they're normally incredibly lustful or misandrists. I guess Athena wasn't too bad... Dionysus, eh? Hehe, you should look up 'Bacchanal of the Andrians' and you'll see Dionysus in his glorious splendour passed out. It beats me how Dionysus even had enough consciousness to go to another city for yet another festival!
