If the armed forces were to offer a one or two year enlistment with a guarantee of exclusive deployment to Sudan or another genocide region, for the purpose of using overwhelming military force against the Janjaweed or whoever, would you join?

If they give me proper training and equipment, yes, I believe I would. My life is boring as it is, and that way I could actually help people.

Only if I was in a Mechwarrior.

Yes.
After seeing what a camp liberation did to my great-uncle jack, yes killing genocide practitioners is a good thing.

Given proper training and equipment, yes, I would do it. And I bet half my school would say the same, especially some of those Israeli girls who put Darfur posters on their lockers.

If it were done properly. I spent a year in Iraq, and I have no intention of going on another military adventure masquerading as a noble cause.

The janjaweed militias are pretty discreet entities which do not blend in with their victims.
This would be a situation with a clear target, lacking only someone to pull the trigger and blow them to hell.

It would be a fascinating experience, and I'd probably try.

I haven't. I "missed out" on my compulsory service because I left Germany before I got to that age.
As I said, I'd need two or three months of training.

Extensive experience with Pistol (.22, 9mm, .45).
Extensive experience with Bolt Action Rifle (.22, .30-06)
Semi-Automatic Assault Rifle (PRC Built SKS)
Pistol and Bolt Action guns were fired in target/marksmanship scenarios.
The SKS was fired in a purely entertainment mode at my grandfathers farm.

Give it another ten years and it'll be gone. Put it down to the Soviet Army right next door.

If I was called up for it I would gladly go. Nothing like killing SOB's that slaughter innocents. Although I wouldn't want to be under the UN banner. Would have to be a US command or maybe a French Foreign Legion operation.

Indeed, I would envision it as a sort of all-volunteer thing where each nation was under the command of its own regular military.
The cost of training could be offset by, say, renouncing pay for the stint.

And as soon as they fire back half of you Rambo's would shit yourselves.
It is a noble idea without a doubt. But subduing a militia that has political power is never easy. What happens if you do beat them on the battlefield? When they change their tactics and go seriously asymmetric?

I have... I pretty good with a shotgun, and not bad with a rifle. Boy Scouts taught me well.

That's part of my "doing it right" stipulation. Before I were to get involved they'd have to have a real workable plan. I fought in one unorganized clusterfuck of a war, I have no intention of fighting in another one.

Totally. And that takes years. If not decades. Look at the Balkans...there are still troops there.
