Explain.

Yes I do. It is wrong what the Russian government has done to them and they deserve self-determination.

they deserve self-detrimination
They should do things that are detrimental to themselves? :p
I'm not so sure. The Chechnyans should probably stop with, like, all the terrorism and stuff. On the other hand, it's not like Russia needs any more land... :p
Let them go. God only knows they're a worthless wasteland anyways.

their so called terrorism is a result of Russian aggression.

I think that if they want to govern themselves they have every right to do so. The Russians heavy handed approach has created the violence they are now faced with.
I believe in self-determination. Let them go.

While their actions are appalling and not at all justifiable, I do agree. And Russia should just give them their damn independence already.
their so called terrorism is a result of Russian aggression.
Terrorism is still terrorism, like the Moscow theatre siege. Or how about the Beslan school thing? Now that was terrorism. No Russian aggression justifies the killing of hundreds of children.

Not all of them. And they do deserve independence.
Both the Chechnyans and the Russians are jerks. The Chechnyans slightly more so, IMO. However, from a pragmatic standpoint, Russia should let them go. It's really not going to make a huge difference, and is bad for Russia's image and military.

I have no problem with it.
Do you support Chechen independence from Russia? Why or why not?
Explain. There are only villains in that conflict, it seems, and the people that get in the way.

I would agree with that. I don't think they were right in what they did there. I was more refering to the acts of resistance by the Chechens in Chechnya against the Russians that the Russians claim is terrorism to justify crackdowns and slaughters against Chechens.

The ones who are resisting are definitely not terrorists, unless they target civilians.

It's really not going to make a huge difference, and is bad for Russia's image and military.Problem: The Chechnyans have shown that they don't respect Russia's borders, and when Yeltsin gave them some autonomy, seen by many as caving in to their demands, they continued the fight and staged incursions into the neighboring Russian provinces.

Yes, but most of the vocal proponents of independence are, and I bet you a million dollars that there is a substancial number of Chechens who want to stay as part of Russia

If Chechnya goes, Russia will become a 1/4 of what it currently is. If anything, the Soviet Union should be restored.

But yeah, I support an independent Chechnya. Who wouldn't? The Russians don't need it, and they'd stop being murdered by terrorists/freedom fighters.
