Both Stroessner (93) and Botha (90) died earlier this year.

Is Pinochet next?

I predict he'll be six feet under by the end of the year.

And Hussein has been sentanced to death and Milosevic died in March from a heart attack.

Castro isn't dead yet...if he was they would have had a state funeral for him in Havana by now.

Weren't they? Well neither were exactly left wing or liberal either were they?

Castro's neither right-wing nor an ex-dictator.

depends on your definition of right-wing (i'd say authoritarian as much as right-wing economically)
also, he will be an ex-dictator once he's dead

they might still be working out who should take over
won't do the regime any good if that takes too long after the funeral

Authoritarian does not mean Right Wing. As he is a socialist/communist he is a left-wing dictator, just as Stalin was.

Latin American leftists do have this bizarre habit of keeping dead people "alive" long after their deaths.

Hussein was a socialist in bed with the U.S.S.R. Milosevic was a former member of the Communist Party.

Because his medical problems will make him suffer for every single minute.

If they were working out who should be leader we would have heard by now - theremust be so many wanting the job that they must be prepared to do anything to get support for their bid to replace him.

I apologise for my mistake. Shall we just say that its been a bad year for ex-dictators in general?

Pinochet is in critical condition. He receive his last rites.

Quick! Predict I'll win $50 million and retire to a lovely house with a nice swampy back yard and be constantly harassed by nubile young nymphomaniacs.

Please. :)

its a good year for ex dictators when they get to die in their own beds rather than in the prison they deserve to be in (or in front of a firing squad)

I don't know... I can kinda imagine the Cubans having a little fun seeing how long they can make people think he's till alive. Like, if you ever saw that film where those guys had to pretend their friend wasn't dead so they could claim a cash prize or something, like that, but with Castro.

(P.S. I thought the film was called Drop Dead Fred, but that's something different, so, multiple points for whoever knows what film I'm talking about...)

Hussein was a socialist

Whose party came to power in a coup against a (relatively) leftist regime that was deemed too close to the Iraqi Communist Party.

By socialist, I mean state socialist. Not the brand you (and most NS socialists) follow.
