I'm not quite sure but I found this infinitely amusing link

Coincidentially, the proper term for more than one prostitute would be a "screw of hookers"
Also, a "screw of hawks"

Some real winners:
A poke of gigalos
A run of laxatives
A snip of vasectomies
A vat of tax collectors

What is the collective noun for screws?

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v260/Katganistan/th_u-rail-screw-white.jpg A screw, singular.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v260/Katganistan/th_maintapping-screws.jpg Screws, plural.
I'd go for "a jangle of screws" as the collective noun, myself. ;)

You just wanted to use pictures, didn't you?

But I do like jangle.

What is the collective noun for screws?

Are you sure there is one?

After reviewing several lists of collective nouns, I'm not sure there's one for screws.

I couldn't find one either. But there are considerable polemics in my household right now in respect of this issue.

**walks into thread carrying binoculars and wearing a ghillie suit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghillie_suit) made of thousands of screws, nails, drill bits, and a few hammers and lightbulbs**

The local hardware store seems to refer to the screw collective as either a "pack" or a "box," although apparently "boxes" vary by weight. Field observations so far indicate normal weights being in the range of 1 to 5 pounds, constituting hundreds of individual screws. It also seems that membership in any particular "pack" or "box" is highly variable; screws often find they way into new collectives, mingling with screws very different than themselves. This migration appears to be aided by bipedal relatively hairless ape-like creatures who seem highly confused and disoriented.

**returns to observations, making a hell of a racket along the way**

A bunch? A handful? A box? Probably depends on what they're being carried in.

I've never carried crows in a murder.

Anyway, the consensus - right now - is that it should be a helix of screws.

That is amenable to change, obviously.
