For people who dont know Glasshouse was a show on the ABC (Australia) that would pretty much bag the government and allot of things very often, but when i found out this years show was the last i got annoyed.
Because it's ratings were high for one so it was making money so what was the problem? The Government put somebody they approved of incharge of the ABC and they axed the show not because it was a money loser but because it simply wasnt pro-government.
People will forget this in about a week but i think the Government has no right to do this nomatter if it's Direct or Indirect, It was really the only show that wasnt afraid to bag anything and would even tease the ABC.
Im wondering if this is just here, or if this has happened in other countries?

The ABC is a government-owned station. The board members who ultimately decide on the programming are put in place by politicians. The Glass House is a show that has routinely made fun of politicians, and the hosts being intelligent young people, they are not fond of John Howard and his gang.
Apparently this annoyed various right-wing talking heads so much that they started complaining about the ABC's "left-wing bias". And the politicians were only too happy to comply and put more right-wingers on the board. And because the right-wingers needed to make an example of something - The Glass House was axed.
This is an accurate statement of events.

If the ABC ditch the Collectors show as well, I'll be quite unhappy. Little Johnny and his American flag waving mates lost my vote a long time ago.

Yeah it sux..but I guess its better for them that the show went out on a high.

Well its the ABC so technically its not making money.. just making lots of people happy for the amount of money spent...The Government put somebody they approved of incharge of the ABC and they axed the show not because it was a money loser but because it simply wasnt pro-government.

It (them getting dumped)was pretty crap. The funny thing is that they didn't really appear to have much of a political leaning... they bagged the Labour party too.. just the government .. being in power and all.. provided a lot more material to bag...
Good show.. sad to see it go.. sad to see the way the ABC is going... but really its the latest in a long lost of "Sad to see the way things are heading" type situations...

That's more or less the ABC philosophy. They're honest and impartial, but tend to focus on those in power (you know, because that's the relevant side to politics).
The problem is that, after 10 years of John W. Howard, people have forgotten that Keating and Hawke used to be ripped to shreds on the ABC.
