I don't know about PA, but I've certainly heard thunder and lightning in December, in Missouri. It's uncommon, but not unheard of.

The Earth is billions of years old, there's probably nowhere that hasn't experienced every weather phenomenon. I mean, Britain used to be a tropical sandbank, Antarctica was a marshland and before that we were all underwater.

In your memory, probably, but down here in Nawth Care Lye Nuh we get tornado watches/warnings in December and January. Last year we had a thunderstorm on Christmas, and a tornado warning about a month later. There was a thunderstorm on my twelfth birthday.

It's quite common here in North Carolina, but often unexpected for some odd reason. It happens every year and every year it seems as though the news stations have never heard of it happening before.
