Why does everyone exagerate?

Like when its cold people say its freezing, whether or not it really is; or when someones hungry they say I'm starving.

Why does no one speak the exact truth?

Why does no one speak the exact truth?

People do it to get their point across and to make sure the other person understands what we mean. We have become so desensatised to causal exageration that most people automatically de-exagerate.

Hyperbole helps in conveying a concept rather than an absolute fact. It is an abstraction whose purpose is to relay an idea rather than a concrete actuality. For example, saying that you are hungry enough to eat a horse underlies your desire to feast, not the optimal amount of food you would consume, given the choice.
