I'm indesicive, so you choose.
I have a jazz band concert tomorrow, where we as a band decided to wear concert black/formal. So I have four options I'm considering. But I'm indecisice, so you guys pick. Poll coming.

EDIT: and no, I have no idea how that fucking orange blob got to the title of this post.

depending upon the time of day, either a morning suit or a dinner jacket (tuxedo) is most formal.
I assume you're having your cocnert at night, in which case a tailcoat tuxedo would be the most formal, but perhaps not the best suited to jazz.
Jazz is not the most formal kind of music, so I would advise against tailcoats. Leave it for the symphony orchestra.

Either way, for the sake of God and his son, who was a carpenter and nailed up for you, so that you could have a fine wood wardrobe, only get a tuxedo jacket (dinner jacket) with either shawl or single-button peaked lapels.
Notched lapels are a sacrilege.

If you wear shawl lapels and a wing-collar everyone knows you are american.

There isnt a goddamn thing in the world wrong with dressing like an American, have a little pride in something worth being proud of.
America has its own sartorial traditions which are distinct, but not qualitatively different, from continental and english ones.
Take the oxford cloth button down, the flat front khaki trousers and the sack blazer or suit, with a repp tie. This look is as american as the double breasted A&S pinstripe suit and the cutaway collar is british, as the high gorge, checked neapolitan single breasted suit is italian.

I own two tuxes actually. Both of them were purchased for choirs I was in, so I had no say.

Is there something so wrong with dressing like an American when you're playing music that has its origins in America?
Or is there some alternative point that I'm missing here? 0_o

whatever the rest of the band is wearing. it looks better if you're all matching outfits.

We don't all have matching anything. So we were told concert black, which traditionly is tuxes, in classical circles, and pure black in Jazz. As we walked out the door, we were told concert black, but dress as nice as possible. I know that there will be tuxes and suits both in the band.

Well, if you want a rather silly reason, I can assure you that in every choir I have ever been in, the straight females of the group have openly and unanimously looked forward to formal concerts specifically because it meant we'd get to ogle the T's & B's in their tuxes. Tuxes are sexy. :D
