Ok I want to go see the new movie Borat..But I will have to wait because it is rated R. In the U.S their have been many problems with borat saying it is to racist..But they arent relizing that Borat is from the funny show De Ali G show. Yes their are some nasty parts to Borat but who cares. I think the movie is just for fun and laughs. If you dont like Borat then dont watch it and thats it..But i do think how they lied to that village and others were wrong..They should have told them after the show but what do you think about it?

World: Tell my why Borat is banned in your countries.

Also for all who have seen it what are the best parts:) and the not so best parts!

Wait until you can rent it for a couple of bucks instead of shelling out ten or more, what with popcorn and a soda and maybe some jujubees or raisinettes, twenty bucks, just to see some unfunny guy not even wearing a real mustache. :p

I am waiting until a friend buys it because as I saw on the news, he only paid the peope in the part where it is supposed to be his home village $3 and told them it was to be a documentary on the poverty of that area. I think thats disgusting that this guy is making more than millions and paid those people $3...

Even better, you won't have to leave the house. ;)

Only two countries, it seems, have banned the film outright. I shouldn't talk, I haven't seen it, but what I have seen of Sacha Cohen on the Tonight Show and various snippets has not impressed me. But I'm old, I still think Johnny Carson was the only great late-night host that ever was.

The Sapir-Whorf hypothesis states that our choice of language shapes our culture and our reality. By allowing racially biased language we are allowing the perception of racism to continue in our cultures. Avioding predjudice terms whenever possible has the power to reshape culture as the idea and perception of racism slowly fades away.

i dont see how borat is a racist film. you stop racism by allowing what they dont. free speach and ideas. also allowing 'racist' humour makes racism funny. thus people take what racists say less serious.
Terrakani

The film itself is not racist. It is meant to be a comedy and I understand that. However, the presence of predjudicial language perpetuates racist ideas and concepts.

not everyone knows this but sacha baron cohen (borat) is in fact jewish. I saw an interview where he explains that his movie shows how racist people are, especially the people he talks to in the states. He says that America kind of missed the point but i think we got it here in Lectro Cool

Was death of a president actually banned in the USA? I thought that the major theater chains just refused to screen it.

The sapir-whorf hypothesis works for general concepts more then specific things.
Eliminating racist language does nothing to eliminate racists.
If you eliminate that whole class of language, you might be able to remove the ability to think one person (any person) is better then some other person, but I don't think the world is comfortable with having Hitler and Gandhi on the same level.

Mocking accents?
You don't know much about Borat, do you?
It's more or less Borat saying something outragously racist and seeing how people react.
It's not racist because the actor is only doing it for the reaction, not because of how bad it is.

I don't know what you're all talking about. Borat was hilarious! The only bad thing was the picture of Borat's son nude. That was funny, but not something I ever want to see. Everything else rocked, the ending credits with random soviet government/space program footage and Kazakhstan's "national anthem" were a great ending.

Kazakhstan is the greatest country in the world,
All other countries are run by little girls

And as for it being racist, it was, but it was funny and not meant as hatred at all. If anyone can talk about a "Jew egg", it's Sacha Baron Cohen, who is Jewish. And I actually have a little more respect for Kazakhstan now. After all, according to the national anthem used in the film, they are "the chief exporter of potassium, all other countries have inferior potassium", and their prostitutes "are the cleanest in the region":D
