nor should they

Why? I'm really interested in Islam, and I think a visit to Mecca would be the experience of a lifetime. I wouldn't go there to cause trouble, just to look around.

I want to see the rainforest before it is gone forever [By 2020, it is estimated that at least 50% of the species resident in Brazil will be eradicated]...so Brazil, Costa Rica or other parts of South America. I would also love to see The Nile.

In more realistic terms, cities in USA I have never been to...San Fran, NYC, Austin, Las Vegas, Seattle...

National Parks...Acadia, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain, Redwood.

I understand that and I'm glad your interested in Islam, but Mecca is incredibly holy and must be protected and maintained.

There are actually some good reasons:

1) all the muslims in the world already want to go there, and there are logistical concerns when you have The World's Muslims in addition to tourists.

2) it is a genuine and deeply important shrine to the Muslim religion, not a tourist attraction in their eyes. Christianity has no counterpart.

The solution:
"Become a muslim," go to mecca on the Hajj, stop being a muslim.

I suppose I'll have to add that I'd love to go to the Sudan and be a tank commander or a helicopter gunner and kill Janjaweed militants.

"Pull our troops out of iraq and send them to FUCK SHIT UP in darfur sudan."

I'd seriously consider joining the military if they offered a two-year fighting stint in the Sudan.

I've always wanted to take a ship to Europe then take the Trans-Siberian to Vladivostok. Take a ferry from there to Japan, then the ferry from Japan to China. Then catch a cargo ship to Australia then another back to the US via a south Pacific island or two. Around the world using strictly surface transport is the best way. ;)
