2. To blanch.

So, to "white out" something is to whiten it until it is no longer visible. Just like "black out", "rub out", "cross out", etc.

What the hell is this topic about? Nobody ever calls anything whiting out in my experience. The only time I've seen it used was to mean something similar to "black out" in a Pokémon game on the GBC.

"Black out" I've heard used for becoming unconscious (and "The Blackout" during the second world war).
