Those taliban shitstains are at it again. They've disemboweled and drawn and quartered a man to make an example of him. His crime? He was a schoolteacher who taught girls.
We need more US troops there to capture and kill taliban troops. It's time maybe to make an example of the taliban. Whenever a taliban supporter is caught maybe he should be fed alive to pigs in the town square. If they want to teach by example, maybe they'll learn by example.

You can't do all that by The US needs to put more troops into Afghanistan
You need to put troops into your "ally" there. Because that's where the taliban leadership is. That's where they go back after every fight. That's where they recruit more cadre, train, arm and infiltrate them across the border. That's what they will keep doing until they are destroyed there.
Simply manning Afghanistan won't cut it. That border is un-mannable.

How about closing the border?

After we build the fence on our border, we can build one around Afghanistan. I like it.
Anyway, DCD, all the troops we could have used to do more in Afghanistan are in Iraq. Damn, that didn't work out so well, did it?

That's easily solved. A simple draft of every American who advocated the war in Iraq should suffice.

Yeah, no shit. That was one of my major objections to going into Iraq in the first place, but dubya doesn't post on NS, he only listens to folks like Rummy and his pals.

I was thinking more of a ten mile exclusion zone with motion sensors, antipersonal mines and gunship patrols which would kill anything that tried to cross the border.
Anyone living on in it will of course be compensated highly and relocated to the northern part of the country.

Since when have I been concerned with moral high ground? You know me by now, don't you? I'm willing to be just as brutal as anyone else to get what I want. I just happen to want stuff like equal treatment for men and women and freedom of speech and stuff like that.

Well then, I suggest that you are going about it the wrong way.

Having them hung, drawn and quartered is the right way, much more reliable. :p

You capture the Taliban and treat them as POWs. Your method would only cause more hatred and more coalition deaths.

But since they're muslim being eaten alive by pigs would add insult to injury.

Well, pigs aren't exactly bred for killing, so it may not be the most reliable method. Why not just make it lions? Carnivores are apparently prohibited.

How about closing the border?
You can't.
1. The terrain
2. The Pushtun tribes who live on both sides have been freely moving across the imaginary Durrand line. They have never been under full sovereign control of either Pakistan or Afghanistan. They are armed to the teeth, thanks to the decades of arms running from the Afghan jihad. Pakistan will be unwilling to take on them due to their compulsions for running the Kashmir jihad.
3. The Afghan govt itself will not want a formal demarcation and sealing of the border as it stands now, because legally the NWFP and a good chunk of Baluchistan province of Pakistan belongs to Afghanistan because of the expiration of the lease from Durrand Treaty.
The US needs to put more troops into Afghanistan.
Indeed it does.
I hardly think the Taliban would be such a problem if the 120,000 troops currently in Iraq were available to us now.
Would Afghanistan be such an issue today if we had started the invasion of Afghanistan with 100,000 men on the ground? I don't hardly think so.
Nor do I feel that Iran would be so confrontational...nor do I think that N. Korea would have tested missiles or nukes. The threat of force often does more than force itself.
Iraq is already, in my opinon, the greatest foreign policy disaster in U.S. history...regardless of the final outcome.
The fact that things can get much worse than they are now only adds fuel to a roaring fire.
