Inspired by the most beautiful piece of music thread.

What is your favorite era of "classical" music?

I'm only going to put up the five major ones. Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, and Modern. Others, such as post-modern, impressionistic, and such can all be lumped in with the others fairly effectivly, or were to small to cause much of a stir.

While Baroque has excellent artists, I like the sounds of the Romantic era.

Romantic.

I like Baroque and Classical just fine, but I don't find them particularly involving. 20th Cent. and Modern strike me as growing worse and worse as time goes on.

I think Baroque was full of genuises. Particullarly folks like Back, and Vivaldi. They did so much with what they had, and caused so much to change. However, I just don't like the way it sounds. And, I love the romantic era. I just like the way it sounds. And on through impressionistic (my favorite being Sant-Saens) and early 20th Century. I guess I just like big.

The Baroque composers were not "geniuses".

They were mindless hacks who wrote nothing more than fancy-assed pretentious arrangements of sound with no emotional or artistic content whatsoever--they certainly didn't write music.

I used to favor the Romantics, back when I had a good deal of Romanticism in me myself.

I got over it. Now it's nice when I want something soft and pretty.

I appreciate Baroque, especially, if not exclusively, Bach. But overwhelmingly I like a lot of 20th century orchestral compositions by a wide variety of composers so, that's what I have to go with.

(I never liked true classical. Mozart. Syrupy sweet, superficial and boring - just like most of today's music.)

Oh, right, because just any mindless hack can write a Bach fugue and make it memorable and popular. Or hey, can improvise a ricercar. Go for it, since it's so child-like simple!

I definitely like the Romantic era the most. A lot of the Baroque and Classical era music I've heard seems rather stoic or nondescript, as though they're just churning out notes and that their heart's not really in it. Most of the Modernist music I've heard just leaves me cold, though, it's too mechanical and dissonant or it sounds silly and dull (like minimalism).

speaking of pretentiousness....

I chose Romantic, but I do like a good chunk out of all the movements
