Adult entertainment

I was wondering... Smunkee said in another thread that she didn't like adult entertainment. Personally, I enjoy several forms of it quite a bit, although I never understood what some people see in others, such as gambling.
Do you enjoy adult entertainment, and if so what forms?

not sure quite what classes as 'adult entertainment', but i watch cartoons anyway so i probably don't count :p

Gambling, most definately. However, not the horrible money sucking slot machines. Blackjack and poker mostly. If I'm going to lose my money I want it to be partly because I screwed up. Way to much "luck" involved in slots, and not any skill.

What exactly encompasses adult entertainment? My first thought was porn, but everyone likes porn anyway (or are liars ;)). I don't like gambling, though. What else is there?

Well, porn definitely would be one thing I enjoy.
And alcohol. I'm not a binge drinker, but I simply love Whiskey...
Some people like driving for entertainment, but I don't even have a licence, let alone a car.
Other than that.. I'm open for suggetion regarding adult vices :D

Oh, well, duh. I didn't think of that. Probably because I started drinking before being considered an adult. :p

yay porn! :p

i used to enjoy drinking, going to pubs/clubs, and getting hammered. i stopped enjoying it and no longer do it.

driving for entertainment is stupid and often dangerous. i used to have a friend who would pull powerslides in his car on the motorway when it was wet - this terrified shit into my panties

other drugs count as adult entertainment? used to do them too but, like with alcohol, realised that they weren't that fun any more and weren't doing me any good.

don't go to strip bars (that seems like adult entertainment), or enjoy any kind of blood sports.

Gambling can be entertaining, as long as it is someone else's money....
Drinking used to be fun, now it is only fun in a social setting....
Porn is always entertaining, but you do get jaded after a while...

Nope, guess I don't like much "adult entertainment" anymore....sigh

Well.. In that case I'm an adult xD Porn, alcohol, sex, gambling.. ^^ I used to play online-poker before, of course with other people's accounts and money. But I'm starting to dislike alcohol. You just throw up and the day after you feel like the world has turned against you.

Although, it's sad you have to be twenty to buy liquor in Sweden. And you have to buy it at a place called "Systembolaget". It's like this big booze-store, with nothing but booze in it! I used to love going there with my mum when I was younger :P

Oh, they go together formidably. :D
The only downside about those games was, we couldn't play them in regular German pubs. Every German male felt the obligation to explain the rules to those poor, feeble females attempting to play those games that were so obviously desgined for male minds.
So we played in the Irish pubs, as the only people hanging out there were American GIs... they sometimes tried to understand the rules by watching, but gave up soon enough. :)

Here are the rules for Skat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skat_%28card_game%29). For Schafkopf, you would need a deck of German cards (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schafkopf#Farben_und_Kartenwerte), I don't think you can get that here in Ireland...

It's not that bad when someone explains the rules and you just play a few rounds with open cards to get it all explained. You can learn the rules in about 1 hours or so.
But to play a good game, that takes experience. Years of it :)

I don't gamble. I just don't understand the rationale of giving away your money. It doesn't give me a buzz & all I can think of is that every $1.00 I give to the booky/pokie machine/casino, I will be lucky if I get $0.80 back. Makes no sense to me.

Drinking I do very little of these days.

And my most evil vice, cigarettes.

And porn? I like the type where children are involved... (NO! Not REAL children, you sick freak!)

I guess that's about it, don't care for porn, don't understand strip clubs, can't drink anymore, never liked it when I could, don't do drugs anymore, don't gamble, none of it really interests me.

Porn-hentai of course, its a casual thing.
Smoking cigars and drinking some tequila every once in a while. To wet my throat sometimes a few beers.
I don't like gambling or drugs. Gambling messes up my karma and even if I win something bad happens to me if I gamble, so I don't.
For some adrenaline I turn the emergency door handle and jump from a moving bus sometimes. Is it adult entertainment? :p
I used to do wrestling with a few friends for fun. Pancreas moves and that stuff, taking the guy and hitting him to a desk a few times, throwing each other a few meters or jumping on a crowd of wrestlers busy with each other etc. Mostly it was clashing bodies with high speed and flashy movements more than damaging ones. Controlling balance, speed etc. Drinking and eating after it was good too. Then I would tie up my tie, wear my suit and go on to my business.

Sex - tick.
Porn - tick.
Drink - tick.
Drugs - tick.
Gambling - tick.

I do all of these because I enjoy them in one way or another. None of them excessively (except perhaps sex - depends on your definition of excessive, I suppose), because then they just wouldn't be as much fun.

Porn, yes, in certain forms (written erotica and decently shot films).

Sex, but of course.

I do drink, but I've lost my youthful taste for drugs (and that was only grass anyway). I certainly don't drink as much as I used to, either.

I quit smoking almost a year ago and have just about lost my taste for it.

Cabra, there are certain card games that an intelligent person can nearly always win, if the game is played with only one deck of cards.

There are blackjack strategies, for instance, that can consistently show a statistical edge over the house.

And only a fool plays gin rummy for money - I made a great deal of money when I was younger, fleecing people who were dumb enough to play.

I never played either of those... but if I recall Blackjack is a simple, straightforward betting game as well. Sure, you can come up with a strategy, same as you can come up with systems to win the lottery. But you're essentially playing against a stack of cards, not against changing strategies of the other players, are you?

There is a different strategy for the kinds of cards you are dealt and what bets to make with them, then there is the strategy of the cold bluff or the partial bluff. The strategy of knowing how to represent strength, mediocre cards, weakness or to be an enigma.

You don't "play" your cards, you "play" your chips. you also "play" your opponents.

There's just as much luck involed in the cards you get in Sheepshead as Poker, or any other competitive card game.
They all have luck, it's how you mitigate that luck over time that matters.
Good players make the most out of good hands and minimise their opponents ability to do the same.

Rummy involves playing against the changing strategies of other players - everyone's strategy changes depending on what cards they receive, and which ones they believe are in play.

The person with the better ability to discern who has which cards, and which cards are still in play, and which cards other people require to win will kick the other people's asses.

If you have an excellent memory, the game is child's play - but it still requires strategy.

Strategy is not simply making a plan in advance. It is also the ability to change a plan in response to changes by other players (as well as changes introduced by random chance).

If that were not true, you could merely make choices at random in blackjack and come out with the same outcome as someone using a strategy - consistently.

That is true. Good Blackjack players can perform better than poor ones, but you're still against the deck, not people, I'm not a blackjack fan.

for a game that invovles....1/50th?... the amount of thinking that bridge does, it has an amazing amount of strategy. knowing when to bet, how much to bet, when to fold when you started with good cards, when to bet big when you have nothing, all when risking your own money requires lots of thought.

Ashmoria
30-11-2006, 18:08
so when calling it "adult entertainment" it has to be vice. not just things that children dont like (like going to the opera) but things that children are legally barred from doing.

going to las vegas its like going to an adult playground. you leave the kids home and you get to do the things that kids dont get to do.

you gamble, obviously. my sisters love slot machines but i find them boring. i prefer blackjack or poker, preferably poker.

you dress up a little bit slutty (for you) and go to a bar. i do like to dress provocatively now and then but im not fond of going to places where you have to shout to be heard.

you might go to a strip club, a nude show or a male strip show. ive done them all. its fun to watch the pretty naked girls strut around. the male strip shows have great audience enthusiasm but the men are mostly gay and it shows in their lack of response to the audience. you need to go to a higher class of (female) strip club and be in a good mood. as a woman, ive gotten a lap dance from a woman. it didnt do anything for me but it was amusing and the male friends i went with enjoyed it. its whole different atmosphere to be in a place where there are mostly naked women wandering around at all times as well as onstage dancing and big men in sunglasses standing around making sure things dont get out of hand.

you can walk down the strip with an alcoholic drink in your hand and not get in trouble with the law. i dont know why its more fun than drinking in a bar, but it is. you can also just be louder and more obnoxious on the streets and not have people resent you for it (as long as you arent being mean to anyone). rowdy young men on the streets is part of the fun.

you can also have fun just watching other people have fun.

for non-vegas adult fun, i recommend taking some friends into an "adult" store. wandering around looking at the toys and games is extremely amusing. the dildos made from a mold taken from some famous porn star, the unusual colors, the double headed dildos, the dildos that are so big that you wonder why anyone would want to try them, the various sizes and shapes of vibrators, the unusual clothing, the whips, the straps, the handcuffs, the magazines devoted to various fetishes, its mindboggling. its a fun and educatinal way to spend an hour or 2.

yeah i like adult entertainment.

The irony, for me, is that most of the adult entertainment I indulged in over the course of my life was only interesting and fun when I did them: before I was an adult.

Oh, I occasionally look at some erotic nudes or have a whisky at a dinner party, but always in moderation.

Euphoric drugs are fun, but again, in moderation.

Porn is two dimensional, gambling loses me my money, drunkenness is unpleasant, and my kids depend on me too much for me to risk anything too dangerous...

Do things like Gertrude Stein and Dogma films count as adult entertainment? Because I'm fairly sure my kids would not find them to be too fun.

while i enjoy "adult entertainment", for me its a very occasional thing. i go to vegas once a year at most, the last time was more than 2 years ago.

As for sex...well, she gets huffy at me if we don't do it, as if it's my job or anything; I could do without it. It's good fun and all, but it's hardly a necessity.

she must be with you for some reason...

When I figure out that reason, I'll let you know what it is...

day to day fun is much more important. "fun" is doing things that arent routine. going out for the day to do something you enjoy, spending an evening playing board games, renting stupid dvds and commenting all the way through it. being spontaneously silly.

Spontaneous silliness was probably the entire foundation of the first year of our relationship. We still have that. Now we have critters to enjoy that silliness with us.

I can't comprehend this bit. It's as if it's written in an unknown foreign language.

Well, I like porn. I'm having fun watching it. And even more fun watching it with my boyfriend.
I like alcohol, although I haven't been drunk in years. So what's wrong with enjoying a pint or two? I hate that silly "oh, if you can't have fun without alcohol ..." argument. I dropped that childish attitude when I was 13.
I don't smoke, never did, never will. I just hate the smell of it.
And as for gambling... well, a card game now and then, although I don't play for money any more.

there is a difference between saying "I enjoy alcohol" and saying "life just isn't fun if you don't dress up like a slut, get drunk, go to the strip club and have a hooker sit on your lap"

I don't mind that my husband drinks wine with dinner when we go out, I would mind if he 'didn't find it interesting' if he didn't have the wine.

It's even more fun when a friend of yours takes pictures and you can show them to your mom and your granny on christmas. That did away with all the "When are you going to bring home a boyfriend? I'd like to live to see my grandchildren, you know?" questions. :D

none of that sounds fun to me.......and that's okay, if you have fun doing that it's fine (being none of my business) but to tell me that I can't possibly have fun without it? I get defensive first, then I worry about your life in general.

Adult entertainment?
-I enjoy sex and porn very often.
-I like to go to a strip club-a classy one, with buddies.
-I like to drink beer with friends and when time permits I also enjoy a glass
of Scotch and a cigar. I dont bother with either if I expect interruptions.
-I like palying golf with friends.

-I like to go target shooting.
-I like to go paintballing.
-I like to see a good movie.

vegas is only fun if you get into the spirit of committing lots of sins

drinking, gambling, carousing, going to strip clubs, dressing up slutty and going to one of the cutting edge clubs, wandering around drunk in public, staying up all night playing blackjack, that kind of thing

yep.
Ashmoria
01-12-2006, 01:02
yep.

yes i did say that, and i meant it

thats not YOU, thats vegas

you said you hadnt been there but want to go. the truth is that vegas is set up for gambling and carousing. you can do other things but they make it as annoying as possible.

take the mirage aquarium for example.

first of all, its hell to get to the front door of a casino if you arent taking a taxi. walking from one hotel to another, even when they are next door to each other, takes an enormous amount of time. parking tends to be in spots well away from the door.

you go in the front door and all you see are slot machines. it takes 10 minutes to get oriented. you figure out that the aquarium is "this way".

there ARE no direct walks through a casino. they all try their best to take you past as many slot machines as possible in hopes that youll drop some money in. in the casinos that still deal in coins, the noise is horrendous. you finally get past the casino floor and you think you are there...

NOOOO you still have at least a quarter mile walk past shops, down hallways, its as if you are walking to another town! you finally get there, and its cool. shark tank that you walk through, rays to pet, a tank of jelly fish. we loved it.

the half hour you spend there takes 2 hours to get to and from. its the same for every freaking attraction in vegas. they are trying to break you down and get you to give up, have a drink and play the slots.

its not that the non-adult entertainment isnt fun, its that its more fun in a town that isnt trying so hard to get you to gamble instead.

It's a Hotel, but it's practically a villiage in and of itself. the less you leave the Hotel/resort, the better it is for that hotel/resort.

There are other ways through a casino because minors are not allowed to go near the slot machines. so there are paths families can go that bypass those gambling machines.

have YOU been there recently? sure all those things exist. ive been to them all. they are fun. they are also, each and every one, a pain in the ass to get to.

if you want non-adult fun, why would you go to las vegas? there are just so many better places to have innocent fun. smunkee may well find that the star trek experience is good enough that its justifies the rest of the time spent there. she wont know until she goes. for me, TSTE is fun but nothing non-adult in vegas is worth the trip.

Treasure Island is right next door. Circus Circus is on the strip... infact, of the listing I gave, only TWO are not.

Fremont Street Experience is on Fremont Street... DOWNTOWN. you can walk, (I did, and I was staying at the Tropicana... the OTHER end of the stip) or take the CAT (their bus system) or Cab.
and LV Mini Grad Prix is also located waaay off the strip.

LOL... Las Vegas has strict rules about gambling and drinking. they are opening up more Family Friendly activites because they know that the family is were the money is. it's just that LV offers more for adults because that's what they started off as, but the number of family oriented activities is growing, and growing fast. *Thinks back to the Forum Statue show at the Ceaser's Palace*

Gambling, most definately. However, not the horrible money sucking slot machines. Blackjack and poker mostly. If I'm going to lose my money I want it to be partly because I screwed up. Way to much "luck" involved in slots, and not any skill.

The card game I enjoy most is Hearts. "The game, gentlemen, is Hearts."

Poker I used to like, but everyone plays Texas Hold'em now and ignores the other kinds, so I've abandoned it. Blackjack is cool though. Mostly I've just played cards to pass the time on backpacking trips and at school and stuff.

Other adult entertainment, well, I enjoy some porn, and "adult swim," and some books that contain pretty graphic violence and sex. I suppose that's about it.

Having thought about it, I'd have to say that I honestly don't enjoy adult entertainment. Porn bores me, gambling seems pointless, I suspect I'd feel very uncomfortable in a strip club, I've never had any interest in drugs, and while I do drink, I don't do so as "entertainment," and almost never get drunk.

I'd agree with the people who say that if you have to do those things in order to enjoy yourself, you're probably rather boring. An ex-boyfriend of mine once noted that our group of friends "didn't need to drink alcohol to be drunk." I heartily approve of this quality, and find it rather sad if one can't let oneself be uninhibited except in specific, socially-approved circumstances. ;)
