You almost can't make this stuff up.

I for one think it's a depressing turn of events when a nation reaches the point where their government has to step in to stop them all poisoning themselves on anti-freeze. But there is a sort of neo-Soviet feel to this measure, and Russians do so love to be under the jackboot.

In Soviet Russia, Vodka drinks you.

Here's a fun fact: The reason why vodka doesn't cause as severe hangovers as other drinks is because it is much purer than other liquors; good vodka is entirely ethanol and water.

It's the fusel oils and alcohols like methanol or propanol present in less pure alcohols that cause severe hangovers.

Interesting. Also, I thought the title said something about spirit bacon.

Yeah. For a second there I actually thought this thread was about Putin having visions of bacon telling him to nationalise vodka.

It's about credible as Stalin claiming that he saw the spirit of Lenin...

I mean, obviously Lenin would say "of course, violate every single principle that the Revolution was based upon, that's what I wanted"...Lenin's probably been bitching at Stalin for that one for the past 53 years.

Hang on, so vodka doesn't come out of the tap in Russia, you have to buy it in bottles?

Putin is not so bad:
"Yet President Vladimir Putin has ruled out attempts to force Russians to drink less." - from the OP link.

Putin is good.

I don't see what's the big deal. I'd do it.

Story: In Ukraine, my uncle's neighbours were hardcore alcoholics. Anyway, my uncle had some vodka.. I dunno, what does it do? Ferment? Anyway, he had vodka... growing... in his attic, and the neighbours broke in one day and drank it. It wasn't finished cooking, and, yep, they're dead.

Methanol, most probabily. That's why you should distillate spirits.

by the way:
DA! In Soviet Ukraine, Vodka steals YOU!
