How about it? I think it would be a splendid move. Spiritual and worldly power have been too divided for too long.

Yes! They could take over the UN and the UN could move to Antartica.

Why would the Vatican want to give up being its own country? Besides under Catholic dogma the Pope is the bishiop of Rome and now that it has rules about bishiops having to live in their diocese, it can't really pull an Avigon(sp).

If we can get rid of those freeloading mouth breathers in the UN in exchange I'm all for it.

Mind you, they have to bring over the buildings and the art collections and whatnot as well.

No, but the Pope is by defenition the bishiop of Rome thats what supposedly makes him Peter's succesor justifying papal supremacy, and since it is now required that a bishiop live in his diocese The Pope as the Bishiop of Rome can't live in New York.

I have now found a friendly and humane solution to the strained relations between the US and Islam.:)

Mekka must be moved to the US. That way, all the fundamental unruly muslims will pray in the direction of the US, view it as a holy place, and all shall live happily ever after.

That is just a legal issue. Redefine living, as concerns bishops, and problem is solved.

It should go to Flint Michigan. I hear they are in need of urban renewal.

Why should the Vatican be moved to New York?
Why should it not stay in Vatican City, where it's been for hundreds of years?

Why does everyone seem to think everything should revolve around the US? I'm an American, a New Yorker, and a Roman Catholic, and even *I* think the idea is stupid and offensive.

There's no logic whatsoever in moving it to New York, as that city is not predominantly Catholic, and the Vatican would not be particularly welcomed.

If the Vatican did ever have to move, Rio de Janeiro would be the best new location.

I imagine if it moved, it would still be in Vatican City.

Anyway, that's another cool reason to have it in NYC. North America doesn't have any micro-nations. We should have at least one. They are cool.

Possibly we could also relocate San Marino to Rhode Island.

It all started with thinking about how leaders through history have been much more efficient at domination if they had a god on their side, as an extra justification for their exercise of control.

From there on, the shipment of Mecca and the Vatican to the US seemed the inevitable power move.

Consider the alternative; moving the US to the Vatican or Mecca seems much less convenient, and liable to cause tensions between the two religions.

But...think of the stability and potential for a thousand-year-Empire!

Especially if the UN was incorporated into the package and used as a uniting force rather than a dividing one, to add some feel of legitimacy.

Congratulations on getting the picture though.;)

Why should Mecca be moved from its historic home?

Well, if we're moving the Vatican, why not cover all the bases? While we're at it, Jerusalem becomes a suburb of Chicago, the Punjab region will be packed up and moved to Seattle, and all the holy Shinto shrines are off to San Francisco.

That or maybe we need to take all the most prized world religious leaders, round them up, and move them to a satellite orbiting Earth. We give them a nice amount of luxury and the ability to communicate back home to us, and we tell them to reach agreements. If it works, we have peace; if it doesn't, the leadership will smite the jerks with a laser beam from the satellite. If it works well, we will do the same with all the politicians and maniacal dictators.

Edited to add: If the political leaders can't come to an agreement, we'll just leave them up there with circus peanuts and Mr. Pibb until they go insane. If it does work...well, let's just say we don't have to worry about that. The circus peanut and Mr. Pibb manufacturers will make a killing.
