How Educated Is Your Local Area?

Just the county or city you live in.

After all that posting about Miami being a "Third World" country, I thought it might be interesting to make some comparisons.

The county I live in:

High School Graduates
Age 25 and Older...93.0%

College Graduates with a Bachelor's Degree or More Education
Age 25 and Older ...57.4%

Fairfax, Virginia. Not Florida.

In 2003, 85 percent of people 25 years and over had at least graduated from high school and 28 percent had a bachelor's degree or higher. Among people 16 to 19 years old, 13 percent were dropouts; they were not enrolled in school and had not graduated from high school.

How do you know the degrees aren't mostly from florida?

If you're American, you can check here (http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/IPGeoSearchByListServlet?ds_name=ACS_2005_EST_G00_&_lang=en&_ts=182869572788) for information for your county from the 2005 American Community Survey.

For Sacramento county:
- High school graduates (aged 25 years and over): 85.1 % with a +/- 0.7 margin of error
- Bachelor's degree or higher (aged 25 years and over): 28.1 % with a +/-1.0 margin of error

The county I live in (Brooklyn) has 23% of the population with a bachelors degree or higher according to Wiki. On the other hand, if Brooklyn was it's own city, it would be the 4th largest city in the U.S. Im my immediate neighborhood, its split between yuppies (college educated), and inner-city (highschool at best). Towards the park from my house is very upper middle to upper class, and in the other direction is very, very poor.

Edit, with Rameria's link:
25 years or older, in Brooklyn, Less than high school diploma 22.4% +/-0.9, High school graduate (includes equivalency) 30.5% +/-0.9, High school graduate or higher 77.6% +/-0.9, Bachelor's degree or higher 26.7% +/-0.8.

As I can't use rameria's link, since it only covers "cook fucking county", i have to say only this: education in my area isn't as high as it should be, but its not our fault, in fact we recieve little to no funding from the state, as all that money goes to the poor, mistreates, rich white suburban kids of "cook fucking county".

You might try the "Name Search" tab. On that page, make geographic type "All", restrict to "Nation" and enter a name to search for, like your town or county or state. Play with the options there.

good thinking - i was having a hard time finding info on wiki :p

Primary school national average aggregate score: 237
Primary school Southampton average aggregate score: 231
(primary school below average)

GCSE results national average: 54% pass
GCSE results Southampton average: 44% pass
(GCSE results well below average)
school i went to average GCSE pass rate: 99%

A-level national average points per student: 269.2
A-level Southampton average points per student: 245.2
(A-level results below average)
sixth-form i went to average points: 379.7

so all in all, people in my city are below national average. however we have one of the county's top schools here (thankfully the one i went to rather than shitty local schools) and that makes up for it... and probably raises the average too :p

Apparently, 87.0% of people 25 and older have high school diplomas and 28.7% have a bachelor's degree or higher in the state of Florida. I don't know about my county specifically, but I do know that I go to the only public high school in the county that's an "A" school.
