Snow started falling in the metro area Tuesday as temperatures started to drop sharply and continued through the evening.

9NEWS Meteorologist Nick O'Kelly says the snowfall will continue Wednesday in the Front Range, foothills and eastern plains as arctic airs continues to push in from the north and northeast.

The snowfall is expected to pick up in intensity later Wednesday morning and through the noon hour.

Accumulations of between two to four inches are expected in the metro area with an additional four to eight inches in the foothills and the Palmer Divide areas.

Extreme temperatures will cause light and fluffy snow capable of blowing and drifting.

Denver and the metro area will be under heavy snow warnings through noon.

Temperatures went down quickly Tuesday afternoon behind a powerful arctic cold front. Highs on Wednesday will remain in the teens and overnight lows will drop into the single digits for the first time in nine months.

A WINTER STORM WARNING is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

It's currently 15F with a wind chilll of 9. The drive in at 6:45 Am wasn't all that bad, but I only go a couple of miles and I took my time. The highways were a mess (note to motorists: driving an SUV with all-wheel or four-wheel drive does not make you invulnerable!).

well that's because its a shit place to be. ok, not as bad as 3rd world places as we have food and shelter, etc, but comparitively to other countries in europe or the commonwealth (which both allow pretty much free movement) its shite. social problems galore, we work the longest hours in europe, are more in (consumer) debt than almost any other country in the world, have one of the highest costs of living in the world, and don't even earn as much as our neighbours on the continent.

Sometime this morning it was sitting right about 16 degrees outside with about 8-9 inches of snow and ice. Fortunately it stopped snowing early today, before the power went out for the 3rd time since Sunday. And I still can't get my car out of the driveway.

They are bringing in crews from Oregon to help restore power to outlying areas.

We win for messed up weather. Not hardly. First of all, I bet you don't get up to 110*F up there. We had 33 days over 100*F this summer.

Second, we have more tornados. Oklahoma City has been hit 105 of the last 110 years. And a couple of years ago we had one in December.

Third, it was 76*F the other day here. It's 22*now and we have about an inch of ice coating the roads.

Average maximum temp for July here is about 18 degrees centigrade, with minimums around 8. I've never heard of it dropping below zero.
8-10*C sounds about perfect.:D

Oklahoma pwns Minnesota for wanky weather. You may have more cold stuff, but ours is way weirder.
Sounds a lot like KC. But with more tornadoes.:p

We dont' have a ditch. But then I haven't seen assorted vehicles on that road, either.:p Almost couldn't make it to a road not coated in a sheet of ice. I hope it's better by the time I get back in the next two hours....

People around here have a penchant for trying to drive little Honda Civics through drifts far exceeding their ground clearance.

A few days ago there was a snow plow stuck farther down the road...

Right now its raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock. I don't know which is more depressing; a frozen snowy hell of a December, or a rainy dreary hell of a December.

Around 10°C right now and another rise towards 15-16° predicted. Normally at 52°N latitude it should be around 0-5° this time of year.
... What climate problem?

We got the snow part (not much though) and we're getting the freezing rain right now. I really don't want to drive to school :(

First snow of the year that's stuck here.

Its hat and scarf cold, but there are blue skies and the gale force wind and rain from yesterday have gone.

Although being in Scotland, we normally have four seasons in one day. and about 20 different situations throughout the country. So whilst its nice here, edinburgh (45 miles away) could be having blizzards/rain/30 degree heat - whatever. and glasgow would be different again.

the joys!

oh yes lets go back to debating whether abortion is immoral because a woman should keep her legs closed or whether genghis kahn could beat george washington in a cage death match.
