Liberal Leadership Race: speculate, comment, slander.

Alright Canadians: Who are you all rooting for?

Personally, I've got my heart set on Stephane Dion. He's a great speaker, he's got an academic background, and lots of experience, he's payed serious dues, he'll make the environment a priority, and he authored the Clarity Act giving him serious credibility on the Quebec portfolio. Whoever first said he "lacked charisma" must have been having a slow day. Happily, the Globe & Mail just endorsed him. I think he's pretty cute too.

Now, whether all this will make any difference, I doubt. Rae probably has it in the bag. I really hope Ignatieff bites the dust, in any event.

I agree with Posi. Granted, I'm not a Canadian citizen, so I'm really just mooching someone else's opinion to garner favor, but I agree with Posi nonetheless.

Rae would pull the same shit he always does. Great for the conservatives. Same with Ignatieff: Foot-in-mouth disease.

So I am rooting for either.

If I could remember the asshat's name we'd be set.

I think Ignatieff would be a good PM, but I don't know if he can beat Harper, so I'm ambivalent right now.

Ignatieff doesn't have any of that. People think he's brilliant and photogenic. His judgement is questionable, and he misspoke a few times, but I don't think there's even much of a copetition between him and Harper in a contest of wit and wills. I mean, take this last week's drama: Harper is somehow already trying to beat Iggy to implemet his own ideas with the whole Quebec-as-a-nation balony. No, I feel that Harper is already sizing him up as serious competition.

Rae's an asshole. Hope he won't win. I want the one who, I think taught/went to harvard (for reasons other then that that's just how I identify him cause names suck.)

I'm hoping for either Kennedy or Dion.

Seeing how Kennedy wasn't a total asshat and actually did some very decent things for his community, I'd say he knows a thing or two about what it means to be poor.

Dion seems smart. A change from some of the blow-out-the-ass politicians running amok in Ottawa.

I'm not talking about image. I don't see enough of a difference between him and most of what Harper has been doing that voters will turn out to replace the incumbent with a more socially liberal version of the incumbent. I will, but I'm not sure the difference is large enough for the average person. That's exactly what Harper was doing with that Quebec motion and will continue to do. The closer he can draw the two of them together, without it being obvious, the less chance there is of voters deciding to pick Ignatieff over him, as he is already in power.

Does anybody really care who gets in? The competition is between a failed former premier and a intellectual ex-pat. They've got a lot of ass to kiss to win back the trust of canadian voters .People don't have short memories when it comes to corruption. A dog and pony show to see which clown gets in.:D

Canadian elections only determine who is the least offensive enough to get enough seats. If you get a minority, it means people held their noses when they were at the polls.

As for my vote on the Liberal Leadership race, I like Kennedy. He won't win, which is too bad since I think he would pull more votes in for the Liberals than either Iggy or Bob. The fact that Bob Rae is even a contender is laughable. Might as well hand over the province of Ontario to the conservatives if he ends up as leader.

I'm hoping for Kennedy. Rae had a really bad record as premier, Ignatieff is way too conservative (for a Liberal) and out of touch with Canadian politics, and I have no interest in Dion.

Kennedy did some good stuff. Didn't he used to work at a level where he dealt with those who used the food bank to subsist from day to day?

I know he's done some good work at a level that can make a difference for those struggling to make ends meet.

I think he's too qualified, which is why he won't get voted in.

He's like the Toronto Maple Leafs for me, a favourite, but you know he won't win the cup, so you cheer for the Edmonton Oilers because it pisses everyone else off.

Go Dion! ;)

Canadians think of themselves as liberal at the core. If given two identical choices, one grit and one tory, most will go for the grit. And not being in power is an advantage in elections since you're not accountable for recent fuck-ups.

Go Dion! ;)

He was a very vocal proponent of the food bank drive in Toronto, and very successful at getting things done. I know he was a frontrunner for the Ontario provincial Liberal leadership, and ended up losing out to Duldrum McGuinty. He's so obviously the right choice that it's silly. But politics never had to make any sense. He's a newcomer on the federal scene, and doesn't have enough clout I suppose.

Unlike Bob Rae for some reason. If the liberals really want to 'unite the left', Rae seems like such a stupid choice after Rae basically pissed off all of the unions during his term in Ontario.

I don't know. I vote for Mats Sundin.

Go Leafs Go!
