Okay, why is this?

Why is it that it seems in the media, grown men can never be the subject of rape or domestic violence. Isn't this some double standard? Whenever they talk about domestic violence problems, they say "woman". There are "battered woman shelters" but no "battered men shelters" why is this?

If you were a man, and you got beaten by your wife, or raped whatever, would you really admit it?

because the battered men shelter is the street. because men are so manly.

i do wonder, however, what kind of man would admit he was raped by a woman. i mean, unless she was someone like Condoleeza Rice (sorry, bad rip) or Fat Albert if he was a woman. then i could see it.

In all seriousness, battered men is an actual problem (though obviously not in the same number as battered women), but one that is not being addressed due to the stigma of not being 'man' enough to handle your woman. It's the same with male rape victims and it is really sad.

Well women get more media attention because the immediate reaction of every man after hearing about it is to go out for a lynching!

Weird though what if we shut all the beaters and rapists together would it create a utopia where sex is free and doctors are billionaires?

the thing is, the stereotype in america dictates that only men beat women, and that women do not beat men, so therefore why would men need shelter if they are never beaten?

it really is silly. id have to say that a majority of "male rape" occurs at a young age, and that is really a problem, because twisting perceptions about the opposite sex during early portions of a man's life can REALLY screw with their perception of the opposite sex later on.

Even if the media gives some news on how a man was raped or beaten by a woman, I doubt the public would take it very seriously. They might just come to the conclusion that the man was either a wuss or just wants attention.

Because unfortunately in society the man is seen as the stronger gender.
If you're a man and you get beaten up/raped by a woman you're looked down upon as a 'wuss', 'pussy', or a 'fruitcake.'

Well a man can get an erection involuntarily so it wouldnt be hard to rape a man after that.

I was effectively raped at Uni...

I passed out at the bar... I awoke briefly to find myself being dragged bodily across the courtyard by a girl I had never seen before in my life. I awoke in her bed unclothed.. covered in hickies... used condom on the dresser.

I certainly never gave my consent. She was a freaky woman.. but I guess it didn't bother me too much. I felt somewhat used.. but not exactly violated.

I imagine its something to do with who is doing the penetration? She had been good enough to provide me with protection, so risk of STDs was low.. I am a guy so I can't get pregnant and no force was used..well apart from the force used to drag my 90kg frame across campus (she was only a little girl too .. force of will is a powerful thing I guess)

I am not saying I was happy about it, but I can't say it has really harmed me in anyway .. and makes for an odd story so.... my experience is somewhat different from that of a woman who has been raped. If I had told that story and it had been a man doing the dragging and I was a girl I think it would be viewed in a very different light!! Both by the participants and by other people...

Knock yourself out. Most research suggests that 10 to 20 percent of all males will be sexually violated at some point in their lives and that one in every ten rape victims is male.

Haven't you read the bible? There are many men who get raped in that (at least one) Probably a gods-forsaken atheist!

Yes, but it's a well-established fact that everyone in the bible except Cain and Old Testament God is a sissy. :p
