It's actually quite queer here in Minnesota land. Almost the end of November and no snow... Infact, it's been oddly warm until right about now. That is not good news. We're going to have either a warm winter(In which it will snow, then melt making everything a mess), or it will be an ungodly cold winter. Im rather curious as to which it will be. Not going to be a "mild" winter(Meaning that it remains around 0 degrees farenheit for most of the winter, getting a bit colder and a bit warmer every now and then).

Oh. My. God. 1-6 inches! Close the schools, call in a state of emergency! Lol. One of my professors used to teach in the south, and one year they had... wait for it... 1/2 an inch of snow, and practically the entire town was apparently closed for three straight days. Funny southerners. Up here, if we don't get at least a foot and half of snow, nothing is happening. Usually, three feet of snow needs to be piled up before anything serious happens(I remember wading through waste deep snow, and school only being two hours late!). Infact, usually they don't even close schools for snow, there has to be alot of ice on the roads for them to even consider it, especially my school. We could have 3 inches of ice, 5 feet of snow, and it be sleeting out, and we would be the only school that was open. Damnable.

That is how it is here. When we get more than an inch or so we shut everything down, but thats because where I live, an inch of snow usually is covering an inch or two of ice underneath. I hate ice with a passion.

I live in California where, unfortunately, we don't get a whole lot of snow, but there are other hazards which sometimes do close down our schools.

About... geez... 3 years ago, when i was a sophomore or something in high school, there was a huge fire about a mile away in the foothills right above us. There was ash and smoke and everything everywhere... terrible. All of the athletic events were cancelled, P.E. classes were called inside, etc. etc., and all of the schools around us were closed.

But we weren't. About the time the fire was put out, everything was covered in ash, so you could say it was "snowing," I guess, though it was just ash. The thing that pissed me off, though, was the fact I knew a whole bunch of people who stayed home because of allergy problems and such and my school never closed down.

:( The last time I got a proper amount of snow where I live was about ten years ago. And that was awesome - I'm talking three foot drifts and stuff. There were even a coupla dudes on the common building an igloo. Good stuff. Unfortunately the best I've had since then has been maybe two inches of slush. Stupid Gulf Stream and its stupid warmth.

Yeah, the weather's been doing really funny things down here in Australia.

It actually snowed in parts of the country a week or two ago. A few days later it was blazing hot.

Talk about contrast.

We had one of those cold snaps last year too. Not at this time of year though, it was more like August or September last year.

Of course, Sydney's too far north and too coastal to get any of that.

As I speak, (10:58 am Sunday) it is snowing fairly heavily right outside my window. It is not really sticking though and visibility is excellent, not foggy like it usually is when it snows here.

6 inches is what I need to get to the point where I can't leave the house. My car sits about that high off the ground.

Where the hell do you live??

Ugh! Over here, it's still in the 50's and 60's! It's supposed to be 64 degrees F the day before December! Stupid global warming... :( In previous years, we've had snow in October, but now that it's almost December, we're having early spring weather. Baby grass is sprouting in our back yard. What da heck?!

(By the way, this is my first post, but I've been lurking for months. ;))
Yeah, as apparently in lots of places, judging from the thread, it's unseasonably warm here, too. Although *I* wouldn't call it warm, exactly, and I'm liking it a lot more than stupid winter.
Climate change is so upon us. :/

Oh, and congratulations to delurking. :)
Creeps me out that there are people out there staring at us. >.< What do you do when you're lurking? Point and laugh, evilly? (is that even a word? o.O)

pfffft...I have to drive from Seattle to Spokane and be there tomorrow morning. A severe snowstorm alert has been issued. I-90 East has been temporarily close at Snowqualmie pass due to multiple collision...traffic is backed up 8 miles or so....stupid weather, stupid Washington state drivers and stupid thanksgiving holiday rush...:headbang:

That should be a fun trip. Ick.

Check Stevens Pass as well. I think they've been having problems with ice on Snoqualmie lately, so accidents were gonna happen no matter how good a driver you are.

Spokane to Seattle, I'd have left this morning or by noon at the latest. Especially knowing that the weather and traffic were gonna slow things down.

I wouldn't bet on making it. They're gonna close the passes soon, I suspect. since they do during heavy snow.

Stevens doesn't look very friendly right now. Snoqualmie may be the best bet for crossing.

From anecdotal evidence, Washingtonians seem to panic on snow. Either they get too cautious or they are careless and the former irritate the latter leading to accidents. That's my theory.:p

I could not leave this morning, so I thought I might start sometime around 3 but after checking the weather and traffic, I decided to start tomorrow morning. My client won't like it though...lol...:D

I live in Washington too and it's snowing at my place! :D :D :D

This is good because last year it only snowed for a couple of hours on one day.

According to www.noaa.gov, in the Redmond/Bellevue area where I live it's only going to snow an inch though. :(

Thats a much nicer theory than mine.:D

If traffic reports are any indication, you can almost expect the trip from the Passes into Seattle to take nearly as long as the drive from Spokane to the mountains.

I live right at the foot of the colorado platue. I can look out my window and watch it snow a bare 10 miles from my house, up on the mountains, or the platuae (some places it quites with mountains, and some it just kind of drops). But I've got nothing. If its going to be this cold I WANT SNOW!!

Thank you snow.

No school today, which means no Geography test, no English essay and no presentation (also no handing in homework I haven't finished yet).

We have about 10-15 cm here. Driving to school is purely treacherous, and all the buses are shut down.

Ouch. Yeah, my friend had a girl from Victoria over, and she couldn't go home 'cause they closed the Malahat. So I guess you guys have got it worse than us (by a long shot).

Yeah, but lower mainland has it even worse. Apparently it's -30 C in Alberta right now.

I talked to my dad at 5:30pm (Alberta time) on Friday and it was -21.:D :D

Abbotsford and Chiliwack are fucked right now. Abby has at least a foot of snow, and Chiliwack was still recovering from the flood. I wonder what it is lick in Misson. It always seem to be the calmest part of my morning commute (as in it is never rainy/windy/foggy/sunny/happy).

10-15 cm? That's only like 4-6 in isn't it? That's hardly enough snow to worry about.

This is Van Island and the Lower Mainland. Usually it starts raining immediatly after the snow, washing it all away.

I did make it to Spokane after all...lol. Took me ~ 5 hrs. Not much traffic at the pass and it was not bad because the WSDOT has cleared the snow and I just had to be cautious around the peak but once I cleared the peak it was normal driving all the way to Spokane.

Here it was 18°C a couple of days ago. After the hottest June, July, September, October and November since measurements began in Brussels around 1831 this is indeed getting hard to ignore , Al.

Snow finally stopped last night. We got I'd estimate, 9 or so inches of the powdery stuff dropped on us. Then the temp dropped, turning all the slush to ice. At the moment it is 23F(-5C) outside in the shade and I am inside enjoying the fact they got the power back on last night.

And there is just enough snow and ice in the driveway, that I can't move my car more than a few feet before wheelspin shuts me down.

-41 C here with the wind chill. Yesterday -40 C and the Ctrain took 20 minutes to come so I was out side for 20 minutes in addition to the time it took to walk there. (should be every 5 min) then I had to wait for the bus. I think I got frost bite on my foot.

Ah, that explains it then. BRRRRR!

I just went out and checked the thermometer on the back deck around 7pm. It said 17F (-8C). And it generally gets colder around 2 or 3am here. No wind chill tonight, fortunately.
