The Devil's Greatest Trick

I was thinking the other day, and my brand of Christianity is all-forgiving. It's just my personal philosophy, and I won't get into it here, I'm just mentioning.

Anyway, I was thinking about the Bible, and how it seems awfully contradictory to offer eternal rewards to people who frankly don't live long enough to be perfect the first time around.

It's also counter-productive to have Hell around when you claim to worship an all forgiving and all loving God. This also goes for the idea that Jesus is the only path to Heaven.

The most powerful lies are the ones shrouded in large amounts of truth.

What if the Devil's only trick was the include the mention of Hell and change the path to Heaven to ONLY be Jesus?

If you think about it, what turns more people off of Christianity? Hell, and the hypocrisy of an all loving God who casually burns people for eternity.

Good trick Satan...good trick.

If you think I'm crazy, take a look at Job. Same shit, different day.

Actually I think it tends to be the followers themselves that are the biggest turn off.

I think that is a close tie to most of the "Organizations" (I know made by followers but it transcends any single generation so figured I would mention it seperatly)

As well as dogmatic issues

Good trick Satan...good trick.Assuming (and that's one hell of a baseless assumption) there's some Christianity-related divinity somewhere, you're saying the Devil's greatest trick was to convince Christians he's their God? Yea. I can agree to that.

True monster that God of yours.

What if the Devil's only trick was the include the mention of Hell and change the path to Heaven to ONLY be Jesus?I think some human(s) stuck that (and certain other stuff) in there all on their own. There have been several rounds of editing, IIRC.

Am I the only one that saw The Usual Suspects? The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. :D

I think the biggest trick the devil ever played was convincing christians God actually cares about non-issues like abortion, pro-business and rigid conversatism, when in fact Jesus' radical and biggest teaching was for tolerance and social justice for the poor.

Anyway, I was thinking about the Bible, and how it seems awfully contradictory to offer eternal rewards to people who frankly don't live long enough to be perfect the first time around.which is why God forgives those who ask for forgiveness.

It's also counter-productive to have Hell around when you claim to worship an all forgiving and all loving God. This also goes for the idea that Jesus is the only path to Heaven.

The most powerful lies are the ones shrouded in large amounts of truth.

What if the Devil's only trick was the include the mention of Hell and change the path to Heaven to ONLY be Jesus?or what if the Devil's trick is to make people think that salvation lies not in faith, belief, and Deed but by deed only. After all, if you convince alot of people that you don't need to believe but just do good deeds, then alot of people will think they are saved when they are not. That would be more successful than trying to say that salvation lies by a narrow and hard path.

Actually I think it tends to be the followers themselves that are the biggest turn off.sadly... I agree with you. :(

I read an amazing book called "I, Lucifer", basically a "autobiography" about, and written by, the devil himself. And he's talking about the crucifixion, and events leading up to it...and says something like...

"a lot of people think I was behind the whole thing, but that's just stupid. Tell you the truth I did everything I could to stop it from happening, I would have been quite happy for the sandle loving hippy to die of old age somewhere outside of Bethlahem. Think about it for a moment, why would I even want it to happen? Christ on the cross means the perfect sacrifice to god. The perfect sacrifice means divine salvation. Divine salvation means the forgiveness of sin. The forgiveness of sin means NOBODY HAS TO GO TO HELL! Now why would I want that?"

Meh ... I find the biggest turn-off to Christianity is actually the food. I mean ... the recipes in the Bible are bland and not very filling. God should have put out a better cookbook.

If you think I'm crazy, take a look at Job. Same shit, different day.Satan plays no tricks. Satan is one of the biblical god's most reliable and trusted servants. He only does god's will in testing folks. If you think I'm crazy, take a look at Job.

I believe that you're not looking at the Bible as a whole. And Job shows that God can even use evil to do His will.

In reference to the original post, you sound very close to gnosticism. This started in the pre-Christ times and just keeps recurring, so what you say is nothing new. Just remember that some of the greatest deceptions can be ourselves and our own personal brand of faith.

If you think I'm crazy, take a look at Job.
You mean the Book of the Bible which details the inherent unworthiness and incapability of humans to judge anything about the true nature of the Universe? I'm not sure how that supports your argument at all.

If I wasn't so tired and wrong, I'd be arguing.
